"Lost for Words" by Ronan Keating blares and blasts in my earphones...
It took me Some time to understand the English and lyrics and meaning,
And after bringing myself close enough to the heart of the song, I must say; ..it's kind of grown on me.
Yet the song somehow fails to lift me out from my train-of-thoughts' deep dark rut.
Sitting here in my seat, taking the long ride home after graduation, life still feels; ...hollow.
I don't miss anything about that school.. not my classmates, not the teachers, ..and definitely not Kenji.
The thought of being rid of that pest would definitely have had cheered me up,
But like the night about to come, I feel so cold in the heart that I'm too apathetic to care.
There is no denying that I'm further and farther Caught, under the dark heavy cloud of my life cut ever shorter by the greying days.
What is the point of going back home to despairing parents and despising mirrors?
Where is the high-point of my doomed future of destined-unfulfilment?
Why is the very Point in living my life to fullest so god damned Lost to me?
I am lost..
I feel.. so... empty,
My life means..... nothing.
I end up doing nothing, for the entire time I've been back.
I have nothing planned for my future, and my parents aren't making a fuss over it for now.
I... don't know what to do.
One day after another, sunrise to sunset, I repeat my lifelessness in lethargic routine.
Barely expecting anything when I answer the door, where Iwanako is suddenly standing at the doorway of my heart.
A snowy smile through shadowed tears, she tells me her parents are fighting, and she can't think of anyone else to turn to.
I'd feel somewhat offended if it were anyone else, but her... it just felt right to let her in and comfort her.
She thanks me a few times, for this and that, for the warm tea offered to her, for me just having her...
And the inevitable silence of distance floods across the emotional gulf between us. All our words were cleanly swept away.
We both knew this part of the story, where we stay silent while the clock ticks and talks,
Time is once again taunting us for our meekness, mocking in all its glory with our own memories;
Where regret is all we've come to know and guilt is all we have to show.
I.. love her.
Yet I Couldn't... reach out to her.....
And now.. we've come again ever closer, only to fall apart even further.
"H-Hisao?"
"You don't have to say anything Hisao, ...but, you know, it's... February 14."
"I can't go home tonight, and the only one I trust myself with is... still you."
"I love.."
"...y-you ever heard about the story of tanabata? I-I mean, you once told me that no one ever told you about the story of '七夕' before,"
"it's... about a mortal man, loving an immortal goddess.. They would be happy together, but a river across the sky separates them."
"I know the story, Shizune- a classmate told me about it."
"They are allowed to meet, on the Seventh Day, of the Seventh Month, once every year."
"Where the azure-winged magpies would take pity on their fates and take to the skies, forming a bridge so they could overcome the tragic distance between them. ...even if it's just once."
"I want to tell you.."
"So much that I can't even speak,"
"But I'm just.."
"Please Hisao, please, then, just don't say anything."
"Just hold me. Just be with me."
"Even if it's just tonight. Even if I'll never see you again...
Just tell me you love me.
(Happy Valentine's Day 2013)

Re: magpies
I'm disappointed you didn't use a much better song by the same name( but oh well. Also it's a bit hard to tell who is speaking when you break up what I -think- are continuous portions into paragraphs and don't attribute any of them properly.

Sorry, I guess I'm really not very good at dialogue.
'Lost for Words by Ronan Keating' was more of a love song, and 'Lost for Words by Pink Floyd' is a song about despair due to social breakdown.
The former should be more appropriate for this story in particular, as it both describes and contrasts against the bleakness of the withered relationship, and fits with the Valentine's Day theme.
The latter is something that would play when Hisao has finally lost all hope of ever finding love again. Probably not so great with Valentine's Day. Maybe it'd go great with Iwanako showing up at the 11th hour to save Hisao from committing suicide or something.
Thanks again for your post nemz, I appreciate it.
