The Good, The Bad, and The Tubby (Adaptation)

Post by CBuM »

This is my attempt at an adaptation. This is very closely adapted from the final scenes of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. If you haven't seen this film, I highly recommend it. This contains spoilers for the movie.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Misha knelt down and started digging the grave with her hands, unaware of the young man that was approaching. He tosses a shovel to the woman.
"It will be a lot easier with that," he says matter-of-factly while lighting a cigar.
Misha, knowing the young man as Hisao Nakai, slowly moves her hand upward towards her pistol.
The pink haired girl however, opts instead for the shovel, to which Hisao approvingly nods.
Misha begins scraping away at the dry, tough ground and recoils at the sight of another shovel landing in front of both of them. Hisao too is shocked to see their student council president and class representative holding a gun to them. Hadn't they gotten rid of her already?
[Two can dig a lot quicker than one,] Shizune signs with her free hand. [Dig].
Hisao, not one to listen to orders, instead grabs his lighter and relights his cigar.
[You're not digging,] she signs, intrigued.
Shizune threateningly cocks her gun which causes a nervous Misha to look her way.
"If you shoot me, you won't see a cent of that money" Hisao states, letting Misha sign instead of having to trouble himself with the act.
[Why?] Shizune asks, even more confused.
"I'll tell you why," he pauses to kick open the casket, "because there's nothing in there."
Misha grimaces at the sight of the soldier's body, making a cross motion with her hands. A sudden realization comes to mind. She stands up and starts swinging the shovel. "Hicchan, you son of a-!"
"You thought I'd trust you?" Hisao interrupts calmly, knowing that he is safe for the moment. "Two-hundred thousand dollars is a lot of money," he explains. "We're going to have to earn it".
Misha upon hearing this, looks to Shizune.
[How?] she signs, again being the inquisitive one.
Hisao meets her unyielding competitive glare with one of his own. He looks around for a short moment and picks up a loose rock.
"I'll write the name on the bottom of this stone," he pauses "the gun?"
Shizune reluctantly holsters her pistol.
Hisao then walks out to the center of the cobblestone area at the center of the graveyard and sets the rock facedown on the ground. Then, facing his two rivals backs up to the opposite side of the stone circle, a firm understanding among the student council members. Only one would be walking away from this alive.
Shizune now enters the circle and starts orbiting the prize at the middle, opposite Hisao.
Misha is the last of the three to join in, exchanging sly glances with the others. They all take their positions at the edges, equal distances away from one another, and start the standoff.
The next couple minutes pass in what feels like an eternity. Each staring the other student council members down, waiting for the right moment to attack.
Misha initiates the moment when she grabs her gun.
One shot is fired.
Its owner: Hisao Nakai.
Its target: Shizune Hakamichi.
Misha continues to pull the trigger, but to no avail.
Shizune again attempts to attack, one foot in the grave, both literally and figuratively, only to be met with a shot to the head by Hisao. She then falls into a conveniently placed hole.
Hisao, seeing Misha's confusion, approaches, shooting Shizune's hat and pistol into her shallow grave along the way.
"Hicchan! You pig! You wanted to get me killed! When'd you unload it?"
Hisao responds with "last night." He goes on to explain himself, "you see in this world there are two kinds of people my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig."
Misha looks dumbfounded.
Hisao leads her to a cross sticking out of the ground.
Misha has trouble reading the writing on the cross, having suffered in English class. "Un... un... ka... there's no name on it!"
He then shows her the bottom of the stone. Blank.
"There's no name here either," he says, tossing the stone to the ground. "See, that's what Bill Carson told me. It's the grave marked 'unknown' next to Arch Stanton."
"Huh?" Misha replies, still confused.
Hisao then takes out his cigar and says "go ahead".
Misha complies, excitedly digging for the treasure that they had sought after for days now. Upon reaching the casket, she becomes flat out giddy as she pulls eight bags containing gold out of their resting place.
"Money~ it's all ours! Wahaha~"
Misha's smile however quickly drops when she sees the dreaded noose that is hanging from a nearby tree.
"You're joking Hicchan. You wouldn't... you wouldn't play a joke on me like that".
"It's no joke. It's a rope Misha. I want you to stand up there and put your head in that noose"
Misha, rather than risk being shot, complies with Hisao, standing on a loose cross sticking out of the ground.
Hisao then ties her hands behind her back as Shizune had once done to him, long ago.
He then tests the strength of the noose by tugging on it.
Once everything is checked and confirmed, Hisao leads his horse to the loot, "well now, seems just like old times. Four for you, four for me," he says as he loads his transportation.
"...Hicchan"
"Sorry Misha," Hisao says as he mounts his steed and rides off.
Misha starts shouting while perched on her unstable spot. "Hicchan!"
After shouting this several times, Hisao seems to answer her prayers and stops about a half of a mile away. What he does next however, is brandish a rifle. He takes aim and with precision the likes of which have never been seen before, snaps the rope that is holding her hostage. Landing face first into her sacks of gold, she manages to pick herself and shout at the top of her lungs to a departing Hisao.
"Hey Hicchan! You know what you are?! Just a dirty son of a-"
WAHAHAHAHA~
Having remembered how GBU ends, I can see what prompted you to do this. :lol:
I found out about Katawa Shoujo through the forums of Misfile. There, I am the editor of Misfiled Dreams.
Completed: 100%, including bonus picture. Shizune>Emi>Lilly>Hanako>Rin
I actually have never seen GBU, and that was pretty depressing for a minute there, haha. It sucks when your favorite girl is always the one being shot or portrayed as the bad guy, but so it goes. Even for a scene adaptation, that was a well written little thing, although it might have been a bit easier on the eyes with double spacing. I don't know if I would brand it a crossover exactly, that alone might have steered some people away from your story. I enjoyed it though, and I hope you'll write a few more, even if (especially if?) they take place in the main KS setting.
