I honestly think he's a troll because he even posted his review on the KS GameFAQs forums just to piss off people. If this was a legit and serious low review score, he would had not posted the link on the forum.

Now, in the event he wasn't trolling, I honestly don't care if he gave teh game a 2/10. I'm not going to attack him or slander his name because of it. Oh wow, somebody think Katawa Shoujo is shit. SOmebody think Katawa Shoujo is a horrible visual novel. Boo fucking woo. Get over it.

What irks is not the dislike (or even hate) per se but the mirror-climbing made to "justify" it. When they are not trolls, they end up sounding like Jack Thompson while argumenting - which I think it's one of the worst insults you could throw at a videogamer.

One of the few examples of a good negative article I've seen is the one at Rock Paper Shotgun. I disagree with most of its points, I agree partially to some, but in general I have the utmost respect for it because the writer showed she really played KS, and her critique went on legitimate points instead of "oh god disabled people having sex, the immorality" and such.

Also, even if someone out there found some problems in the game, would it make you like it less?

I read the review and honestly thought it was a pretty cack-handed attempt at trying to act like an experienced connoisseur of VNs. It reminds me of those people who hate Teacher's because it's not expensive enough for their widdle upper-class taste buds.

Well, shit, given their inept coverage of 4chan and Anonymous, they'd probably make KS out to be some kind of global network for coordinating child cripple rape.

It's most likely one of those "balancing moves"...giving an extremely bad score just to even out the high marks in the other reviews. But its bias ridiculously obvious. I disagree the reviewer didn't play through KS...she obviously did and she obviously finished at least several routes, but it's pretty clear she went through the whole thing desperately trying to force it into an overly rigid mold. ("no villain to defeat?" Fail!, "No true ending that wraps everything up?" Fail!)

So while it's not one of those "Ew, cripple porn, how scandalous"-kind of reviews, it's not really much better since it's kinda like reviewing a first person shooter while pretending it's a role playing game and then giving it a low mark because the player character cannot gain levels. While I usually read both positive and negative reviews to get a good view of a game before trying it out, this kind of review wouldn't be very useful...too eager to bash it for not being what it isn't even supposed to be while at the same time whining about how her favourite VNs should be getting KS' level of attention instead.

I had no experience with or knowledge of VNs before discovering KS last month, so I have no idea how it rates compared to other ones out there (which I am dutifully looking into, being so enamored with KS), and therefore I can't really say whether this particular GameFAQ review is out of order or anything. But one of the reviews that drew me in was this one, from The Escapist. Really great, glowing review that convinced me to give the game a shot. Thank Christ I did.

Solid arguments?
Her reason for the low story rating is basically "I don't like the genre", and her reason for the low sound rating is "It's not fully voiced."
When she writes about the characters, I wonder if she's been reading the same VN as I.
Graphics... Well, there are some stylistic inconsistencies between sprites and CGs. I didn't mind much, but if she rates KS a 2/10, I wonder how she would rate Ever 17 or Tsukihime which are much worse graphic-wise...
Actually, I found the review pretty funny. She goes to ridiculous lengths to find fault with KS, and judging by the way she defends her review she isn't even aware of how biased her review really is. Or she really is trolling - I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt more often than I probably should.

I haven't played many VNs, and I admit, I'm quite new to the whole world of Jap Anime stuff, but I really don't think you can rate KS that low.

If that were the case, that KS is that bad, then other VNs, just about any other VN out there would be mind blowing.

Oh well, I guess some people just don't get it...

Reading through the thread i think it's safe to say i'm gonna have to ignore this review. Fair reviews even if a bit demeaning are all good but it seems like this person just had no idea wtf they were talking about.
