Katawa Shoujo 2?
I know Katawa Shoujo isn't even finished yet, but ever since the demo came out, I couldn't help but think 'do you know what would be great? A SEQUEL!' I know its hard work to take time out from your lives to work on a free project (I have a lot of experience getting dragged to do things I'd rather not do for free...) and the original character designs are from Raita but so far everything seems very moving along nicely with the project getting a lot of attention from all over the world! So, who's up for some good old fashion wild, baseless speculation of disabilites for the possible (however likely or unlikely) sequel?
I'm thinking, maybe some sort of paralysis but not totally paraplegic, maybe something like Hemiparesis orsomething 'heavier' like Hemiplegia. Then maybe a girl that is extremely sensitive to light (Porphyria, Albinism etc.). Or how about a girl with the same condition as Hisao so she always acts distant from people?

If we were to work on another game, it would most likely be an original.
It would almost certainly be a much smaller undertaking than KS, and would be planned in much greater detail.

Well Katawa Shoujo was a 'spur of the moment' kind of thing. I remember the first time on 4chan some anon posted the orignal Raita scan and everybody though 'wouldn't it be awesome of theis actually happened?' A Katawa Shoujo sequel though I guess would really depend on how 'well it does' (if you could use that term for a free game), but I think everybody here would probably like it and it would give you guys some room to flex your character designs. A new project though would certainly be a nice breath of fresh air though.cpl_crud wrote:If we were to work on another game, it would most likely be an original.

VNs require a great amount of planning, and Katawa Shoujo is a huge undertaking. To be honest, KS Act I is fresh enough to keep me satiated for a good while, at least until I get cravings for more game progress. Considering that Four Leaf Studios is (relatively) small and non-commercial, the idea of taking on, or considering, a sequel when the first game is still in production would be a bit weighty.

Seriously, I believe that unlike Clannad, KS would likely have no unexplained moment in the game when the full version comes out, so a sequel wouldn't be that awesome.

Reminds me of my post in that "Future" thread; KS2: Mental Disability Girls. XD Honestly, I think new characters and a new setting (maybe a sister school for my idea?) would be much better than a direct sequel. Cameos, maybe, but I think that KS is fine as-is, and anything else would probably be best as some sort of fan release; concept art, a few deleted scenes, stuff like that. If anything at all were to be made. So direct sequel, no.
Re: Katawa Shoujo 2?
I think the mental disability girls is a humorous idea but wouldn't lend itself well to the name cripple girl so it might be more of a spinoff than a sequel.
More importantly I've always been prejudiced against sequels, I basically feel that you should try to make it the best it can be from the beginning. If a sequel is needed to make it feel whole then you did something wrong the first time. More importantly if 4leaf is going to continue making games they don't want to give the impression that they are a singular jest quadruped.
I think their talents would probably be wasted writing cripple porn the rest of their lives.

Is it really just a game, or is it a religious experience.

...Wait, you think that's a bad thing?
Seriously, though, what I would really like to see is more Visual Novels that have a focus on characters that are just somehow "different". Something that is fairly obvious in looking at or dealing with them, and can form the basis for your dealings with them. Katawa Shoujo does that with physical injures, but there are other ways to do it as well. Many anime fans like catgirls, but what about dating, oh, a spider-girl or a naga? KS is admittedly fairly close along the lines to what's normal for Visual Novels, so for any later project, why not try and twist things a little futher?

Such an idea for a VN would be quite similar as Saya no Uta, bro.Rednal wrote:...Wait, you think that's a bad thing?

I think I would like to play an english version of that game. And while that girl is very hot indeed, I meant something closer to a Drider; human from the waist up, and spider from the waist down. My apologies for the apparent confusion.

No, please. One reason why most VNs are set in High School is because it's much more interesting than College, The only VN i know that succeeded in using the College setting was Saya no Uta.Jake Fuyou wrote:Yamaku College?

Re: Katawa Shoujo 2?
I'd say that's mostly an age-group issue, ie what the characters do and say feels appropriate for their age. Seeing as KS, or indeed any VN, doesn't actually deal with the school directly, it's just a backdrop for interactions between our character and the girls. Sure college is different in terms of classes and subjects, but even in KS it doesn't deal with work at all, in fact it skips over it entirely, the only thing in classrooms is the conversations with the girls before/after class, and everything of importance takes place in breaks or after school.ClckwrkLoyale wrote:No, please. The only way I can see a 'sequel' made is by an expansion with a Misha path.
And maybe a Yuuko path.
And an epic Kenji 'war against feminism' side path.

Following the spinoff train of thought, Katawa Shounen ~Girl Side~. Maybe even as a parody release, gender-bending all the existing characters in KS. Just imagining, Hanataro getting flustered and running off when Hisako tries to talk to him makes me chuckle.Rednal wrote:Reminds me of my post in that "Future" thread; KS2: Mental Disability Girls.
