I think you're looking at it slightly the wrong way. It's not just returning to the parents that gave her up all those years ago; it's also staying with Akira, her sister who took care of her for all those years.
It's important as well that it happened this way. Lilly was afraid of losing Hisao and ironically, it was ultimately her choice.
