Re: Some questions in bulk
I suppose it might come down to the popularity of this said fan-fic's plot, along with the realism of how it fits into the main plot, along with most likely, whether it's by someone who can spell or not =.=;;
I think it would be most interesting to see a fan-fiction inspiring/being adapted into the main game, but otherwise i think that the writers in standing are outstanding, so it doesn't really bother me.
A- actually, I do have a small question (That i will most likely get flamed for is i word it wrong =.=;;)
But..um..Could someone give me a rough number of how many unique CG's have been done for the game said far?
Simply curious.

Re: Question to writers...
I think we all know that Kosher's fics would drive the devs insane if they tried to incorporate the ideas into the central story. Other than that, it would still be interesting to see some cameo from the forums; that toaster OC back from the DA contest would be interesting to have as a painting in the background of the art room scene on Rin's path. Boy, i'm just filled with interesting comments today.Member22 wrote:Since the writing/developing is progressing well (from what you guys say)... this question came to mind for you writers, have any of the fanfics ever given you new ideas/influenced/inspired your writing of KS paths?

Unfortunately, we'd prefer to keep that specific number under wraps. Sorry. Plus, it's actually a surprisingly hard number to calculate, for a few reasons (mostly stuff being spread out everywhere and every attempt at a comprehensive list of CGs dying a slow death).Shizu-chan wrote:A- actually, I do have a small question (That i will most likely get flamed for is i word it wrong =.=;;)

I see. Thank you any though Suri. I can understand why, it's just after watching the (almost annoyinly) awesome trailer done for Manifest, I was simply curious.Suriko wrote: Unfortunately, we'd prefer to keep that specific number under wraps. Although your answer has cheered up my motive for asking -smiles- Thank you~
Questions for the devs
I stumbled across your project here from tvtropes No Budget page about a week ago. I'm really impressed by what's been done here, and the continuting work you guys are doing.
A few questions (that aren't on the FAQ) popped in my head, so I'd thought I put them here.
(btw, my favorite is Shizune)

- Once you're ready for the full release, are you planning a 'community review' phase? I get the feeling that you guys (the devs) are very experienced Visual Novel players and have good taste (for the genre), but there's almost always stuff that slips through the cracks.
- Since you guys have been learning as you go, it's rather likely that your quality of work generally increases over time. Have your standards of what goes into the project crept up as well? (And if so, has there been a lot of re-work since some parts/scenes aren't quite up to par?)
- It seems like now days most anime series are adaptions from Light Novels or Visual Novels (or sequels). Katawa Shoujo has the advantage of being Visual Novel with a familiar style and an outsider point of view. I kinda get the feeling that either it'll be a love-it or hate-it type of game for the Japanese VN fans. If your game achieves enough popularity there, and an anime studio would like to make an adaption, how do you guys feel about that?
- Are you ever planning to let the world know the people being the pseudonyms are? You've put a few years into the project--you may want to let people (potential employers or customers, for example) know that your were part of it.

Re: Questions for the devs
I'm not a dev, but going by what the devs have posted over time...
1.) There's a feedback thread in the forum, and mistakes that are pointed out by users have been fixed in later versions of Act 1. I am certain that this policy will be continued with the final release.
2.) You should have a look at the blog*. There are several posts there detailing the various stages of work that KS has gone through. First and foremost the complete redesign of all sprites of Emi and Yuuko.
3.) I don't think an Anime adaption is likely, but you asked how the devs would feel about it. Can't help you there
4.) Ditto.
*Link leads to the Blog-Subforum, bc it is easier to find specific Blogposts there.

Re: Questions for the devs
Mirage's got it pretty covered, but to add to what he said:
1. Every since act 1 was publicly released, it has effectively been in a 'community review' phase. Lots of people have pointed out errors, and the devs have fixed them. This is easy since the game is still in development. Once it gets released I can't see the devs releasing many fixes to the game, especially long term. They'll do a few, though, I'm sure of that.
But before the game gets released, there will be a KS beta. This is where (hopefully) most of the errors get reported so we can have a good finished product.
2. Definitely agree that you should look at the blog, specifically this, this, this, and this. These posts really show the development process and evolution of KS. You should look at other posts too.
3. The devs don't like to talk about any anime adaptations because they don't want the fans demanding that they make one. The devs won't actively pursue this. However, if an anime studio approaches them on their own, then things get interesting.
4. There's a post by a dev saying that he'd rather his family not know that he was a part of a porn VN with crippled girls (At least, that's what I remember, I can't find the post). I mean, KS is going to be great, but it won't be seen as such by many, so I would understand if the devs chose to remain anonymous.

It's a good thing Shizune is deaf, she is the only one who can stand (not) hearing "Wahaha~!" over and over.

Re: Questions for the devs
1) If by "community review" you mean "hand out a beta to selected people for pre-release testing", it's possible - but we're a fairly paranoid (and large) bunch, so we might just as easily decide to do everything in-house. Our preciousss, you can't hasss it.
2) Short answer: yes. Act 1 is about 70% different from old Grid1, even after ignoring placeholder backgrounds and changed sprite artists. I roughly guesstimate something like 50% of all the rest didn't survive contact with the enemy harsh reality. Also there's all the added[classified information]. :3
3) We generally laugh at the unlikelihood of that. If it actually happened, I think the first reaction would be "head asplode".
4) Signs point to NO.

Shattering your dreams since '94. I also fought COVID in '20 and '21, and all I got was this lousy forum sig.

Somehow, I suspect they prefer it like that. I don't imagine SC wants people posting, "Silentcook is mai waifu!".

Re: Some questions in bulk
Even if an animation studio said they wanted to make a katawa shoujo anime would you really want them to? I mean don't most VN to anime adaptations end up being terrible?
Hanako = Rin > Lily > Shizune > Kenji > Emi > Misha
Re: Some questions in bulk
You mean this absolutely won't happen:Silentcook wrote:1) If by "community review" you mean "hand out a beta to selected people for pre-release testing", it's possible - but we're a fairly paranoid (and large) bunch, so we might just as easily decide to do everything in-house. - Dev team puts in 3 months of beta testing, finding little things that need tweaking throughout.
- Dev team is satisified that the project is complete and releases it.
- The next day there's a new thread with 3 pages of things that could use some fixing. Queue the dev team saying "How could have we missed that?!".

Given the amount of work you guys are putting into this, I kinda get the feeling that "This will NOT suck!" is woven into every little piece of this. If you guys are fortunate enough to get a good Japanese translation, who knows? At the very least, you may want to look at some way of tracking downloads (including unique IPs on the BitTorrent versions I kinda expect you'll have). I think you'll be surprised at how popular it will be. (Then again, I'm biased )
Fair enough.Silentcook wrote: 4) Signs point to NO.
Re: Some questions in bulk
I'd like to think that a studio that would seriously consider this would be looking at Katawa Shojo as a great story to base a show upon, rather than a way to make a quick buck. Most of the Visual Novel and Light Novel adaptations are based on successful franchises, but with Katawa Shojo, there's no commerical success.ReinerSkye wrote:Even if an animation studio said they wanted to make a katawa shoujo anime would you really want them to? I guess this pegs me as hopelessly optimistic, but I like my bright, fluffy world.

Re: Some questions in bulk
The problem is Katawa Shoujo is not a great story. It's FIVE great stories. An anime would end up being a horrible trainwreck hodgepodge of all of them, or it would be in omnibus format and be 5 super short super shallow stories.
Hanako = Rin > Lily > Shizune > Kenji > Emi > Misha

Necrophilian this thread I see
