You hear and see things when you are a veteran of the internet. They pop up from time to time and you don't really think anything of them. I was aware of Katawa Shoujo when the demo was released but didn't really care. I'd see a thread on a *chan and pass it on by, thinking quietly to myself "Haha, look at those fags, playing text based games still." I didn't shitpost or anything, but I still felt superior to them and went on my way playing whatever game allowed me to kill the most people in the shortest amount of time, a young man needs his requisite amount of explosions y'know.

Time went on, threads about the game faded and I forgot about it up until about 2 weeks, or so, ago. I'd been sick, really sick, and reeeeeeaaaaaaaally high because of how many painkillers the doctors gave me - no I'm not gonna die - so I'm just browsing the internet like normal, while the sweet, sweet sounds of LTJ Bukem and PFM pour out of my speakers like liquid joy, wrapping me in a blanket of breaks and I come across a Katawa Shoujo thread. So I figure "Well, Therionymous you can't play any FPS in this state, you could barely butter toast. And your deep and complex roleplaying games require you to be able to formulate a thought beyond what color the sky is right now." So I figure why not give this here visual novel thing a spin, all you gotta do is point and click and read? I can do that in between thinking about what I'm going to eat for breakfast two weeks from now. Maybe you can keep it around if it's got some good jerk material in it.

And... then well Lilly happened.
And then VN recommendations happened.
And now I'm here, one of the silly fags who plays text based games still.
And I'm alright with that.

tl;dr, came for the porn, stuck around for the story
Take it easy.

I became aware of this game on Fakku. I was checking out the Visual Novel's section and saw Katawa Shoujo.

I suppose its time I revealed my own origin story for these forums...
I'll be completely up-front about this. I found this game through Fakku. I remember hearing about it somewhere on the interbutts, maybe 4chan, maybe somewhere else, but I totally forgot about it.
Then I suddenly had the urge to find a VN of some sort. I just wanted to read something. Wasn't really after porn though. I wanted something with a strong story. I ended up with SwanSong and the KS demo. Never finished SwanSong. 100%'d the demo and played through Lilly and Hanako's routes a few times for fun.

This made me think about my intentions, resulting in this post. As to mimic pTherion; came for the story, stayed for the story, Bromont supplied everything else I'd have wanted.

Its weird, though. The more time that passes since I played the demo the more I'm interested in Rin over the other girls.
My order of favorites; Hanako=Lilly>=Rin>=Emi>>>>Shizune
I'm crazy, what of it?

I think over time most fans find their understanding of the characters evolves a bit and maybe the one you were most attracted to initially has been replaced or is now tied with another. It happens when we spend a fair amount time thinking about the story.

2xGPU clients (GTX 465/GTS 250); 2xCPU clients

So have you jumped the Emi ship yet? :P
It's a good thing Shizune is deaf, she is the only one who can stand (not) hearing "Wahaha~!" over and over.

Does that mean "Gotten to like Emi" or "gotten over Emi"? :)

I found myself here.... I think when I was reading into 4chan's history, and when I thought there would be porn involved, I considered it a done deal. I actually thought it might look like a dating sim akin to the stuff you'll see on Newgrounds, since I had no idea what a VN was. Started freaking out after 15 minutes of just reading, but somehow ended up spending tons of time lurking these forums and getting 100%. Fun Fact: I only found Skip Mode (Or the function of the escape key at all, actually) when I was right in the middle of Shizune's ending, which is the last one I did.

All started back in 09. Got really into it, but I ended up putting the rest of the paths on the backburner hoping to do them when the game was released. I've been lurking in and out since then.

...I ended up breaking down, finished the rest of the demo recently, and decided that I might as well finally register too :). Hoping it'll be finished by 2012!

My journey is a rather unusual one. I was lurking on TV Tropes sometime earlier in the year in the Memetic Mutation page. In the anime section was the nutbladder meme from Hidamari Sketch. One of the remarks about that example was how the meme had been replaced by the HNNNGGG phenomenon. I clicked on the link and it whisked me away to the Katawa Shoujo page on TV Tropes. Now I've grown up knowing people with all kinds of disabilities and I thought, "Hey, a game where you date girls with disabilities? Sounds like an awesome idea!". However, I forgot about it for a month. Then the inevitable struck: "Hey, if this is surprisingly well written, why not try it out?" I was hooked.

I played and got 100%. Honestly, I thought I would have fallen for Hanako like everyone else (hyperbole) but my favorite turned out to be Shizune. I really like her competitive personality :3

Anyway, that's my story. TV Tropes isn't so bad after all... or is it?
I like being funny. Now if only I had the talent for it...

Current opinion of the five main girls:

Shizune > Lilly > Hanako > Rin > Emi

After finishing my first VN (Wanko to Kurasou) I was browsing the Visual Novel Database to find something to my liking. Accidentally came across the title and it sparked my interest. Loved act 1 (especially Hanako), can hardly wait for the full game.
"100%"
My final ranking: Hanako >>> Lilly > (Misha >) Shizune > Rin > Emi.

Yes! Another for the Shizune side!
I found out about Katawa Shoujo through the forums of Misfile. There, I am the editor of Misfiled Dreams.

Completed: 100%, including bonus picture. Shizune>Emi>Lilly>Hanako>Rin

Chalk me up for that side cause I have a tie between hanako and shizune as my favorite.

I started the game thinking I'd fall in super love with Shizune. Ended up getting her ending done last, but it rocked.

Yet, there's something about Lilly holding onto you during the grocery store scene that just...
