This. I love it when parts fail, because that means soon I would be able to splurge without feeling guilty about it. I doubt I'll be using the same parts in 5 years time, so why not half my CPU's lifetime from an arbitrary 10 years to arbitrary 5 years? Hell, even less is fine...
Made my c2d e6600 go from 2.4gHz to 3.0 gHZ with only a minuscule increase in core CPU voltage (I think it was .03V). Right now it is running 52°C when both cores are under full load, but I usually have only 1 F@H CPU client running and a GPU, so most of the time the ambient CPU temp is under 50°C. I realize I could still squeeze more hertz out, and I keep telling myself I would get on that.
On a slightly different note, I got
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835706015 when I first started pushing my CPU. And holy shit, this thing is a beast. The level of noise is amazing, I don't really mind it since I have headphones on most of the time, but so is the amount of air this thing can hurl. It sounds like a hairdryer, but blows as much air as a vacuum cleaner. Which is quite good when you think about it. It can also fly.
