Shizune: Exactly As Planned

Hisao is a challenge, my first in a long time.

I look intently at the board, the careful pawn walls. Hisao is good at chess; I can tell. He deliberates.

Then, with a single decisive motion, he takes his queen's knight and places it to thwart my best move.

...Four turns away.

I smile.

With my ring and middle finger, I grasp the king's castle. I leave my index, pinky, and thumb outstreched, signing "I love you" to Hisao as I castle, though he cannot know that.

He looks at the board, and smiles.

I will checkmate him in five moves.

This is from Shizune's POV if you can't tell. And, yes, yes, SHE USES JSL NOT ASL YOU'RE DOIN IT WRONG. I know. Consider it JSL dubbed into ASL.

Hiichan is extremely interesting, Shiichan tells me after school.
I grin. "What do you mean, huh Shiichan?"
She kitty smiles. ...he's encouraging me.
I grin more. I point at her - you - I hug myself - like - and I make an H then pump my fist (doki~doki), with a question-mark face - Hiichan?
I can't admit any affection for him, she says, still with the kitty smile, but really wide now.
"D'yu mean you can't? Or you won't?"
She lion-smiles, and folds her arms behind her back.
I laugh.
She knows I got her there.
