This scene in Katawako's route is pretty strange. She's really not as amazing as we've made her out to be. This is from her perspective:
It's a typical, dark dusk. I've done all my homework, so I'm sitting on a bench outside on the grounds. I'm alone though, so I'm kind of afraid. Someone might come who can't communicate with me and they'll just panic and all that crap. It's also annoying, to be honest.
Huh. According to my psychic powers, the future love of my life is walking up to me. He's trying to speak to me, but it's just getting him frustrated. Let me see his thoughts...
Boy:
That guy told me to ask a girl named Katawako where the library is, but if she's not reacting to anything I do. Is she blind, deaf, and by extension mute? She's a quad-amputee. This is depressing. Maybe she can still feel, but I can't speak in touch. Damnit. It's worth a try, anyway.
That's when I feel a soft, cold touch on my shoulder, presumably from the boy in front of me, or maybe behind me. Unfortunately, the psychic powers of mine aren't very detailed. I twitch at the sudden, cold contact.
Katawako:
Hello? Ca-ear-m? I-ying-sp-through-t-pat-hy!
Ugh. I am capable of telepathy, but I'm not good at it. The boy looks around, wondering what voice he just heard. It's not worth it to try.
Boy:
What the hell was that? Did Katawako say something? She can't, she's mute. Maybe she can. I dunno, I didn't see her lips move. This is kinda scaring me. Is someone pulling a prank on me? Maybe Katawako is just a puppet or doll of some kind.
That's not the case. She's definitely breathing, and she did twitch when I touched her. I think I'm being pranked.
Katawako:
You are not.
Oh wow! That got through flawlessly. If only this could happen more often. Actually, lemme see the future for a sec.. yes, my telepathy will reach perfection soon. Awesome.
Boy:
I didn't say that out loud. Oh fuck. I'm scared as hell. I want to run as fast as possible, in the case that there's a ghost or demonic spirit of some sort, but I don't want to leave Katawako here.. maybe I can find someone who knows her. I'll have to leave her here for now, though.
No.. nooooo. Wait, I was just able to speak to him! He's leaving! Get back here!
Boy:
AGHH!
I need to be much more careful with my telekinesis. Why is it that I can control my own body so well, but I just crush anything else? Oh well, now I've got to fix some of the boy's dislodged bones and keep him on the bench with me so I can try speaking to him again.
Katawako:
Hey, I- oh-do-rry.
This indecipherable statement does not calm down the boy, and instead makes him panic more. He's trying to break through the hold I've got on him, but he can't. I guess it's not worth it to try if it just means hurting someone. I move all his bones into the right places and let go of him.
He runs away, not stopping to look back once. Let's just hope he doesn't go insane.
