Katawa junkies?
Katawa junkies?
Please, don't ask me about the train of thought that led me here, but I was wondering for a bit if the KS girls were to take drugs, which ones would that be?
Disclaimer:
I thought about the fact that you might find it offensive, but I came to a conclusion that you probably won't. Silentcook would have another idea, but I'll be okay if he'll just delete it outright. Though, if possible, mr. Silentcook, please, do not.
I also want to claim that I never tried any of mentioned substances except weed, and I seriously advise you never to touch them, they are dangerous in their own ways, and any drug (even prescription one) can harm you (except weed, it's most probably safe). Stay away from them. Any of my thoughts came out of other people's experiences from other sites, which I won't post here for a good reason.
Once more, don't do drugs, kids, they are dangerous.
The first thing that came to my mind is Rin smoking weed. Yeah, that's cliche. But to think of it I really imagine Rin smoking weed with Emi. It leaves you spacey, disoriented with lots of either body load or head space, both giving her more experience to capture onto the canvas. Strangely, I don't see her doing psychedelics, the surrounding world is quite psychedelic for her, and it also can be quite dangerous if she catches herself into mind loop resulting in getting severe case of schizophrenia. Other drugs are impossible too, but for other reason - she is not social enough to get them, and her only sourcer would be Emi.
Continuing with Emi, as I said before, I see her trying weed. It's logical, she needs a painkiller (opiates aren't for her, they are very dangerous and sedating effect can hinder her daily sports life a lot), an anti-depressant and a sleep-aid. Weed can serve as all of those, if used responsibly. I also see her trying some random drug with a nasty comedown (most probably ecstasy) and quitting right away. Don't think she'll try anything else, she's reckless, yes, but she also has common sense, and is healthy and fit. She is also the only girl that won't suffer anyhow from drug use.
Hanako has almost no pharmaceutical or natural options - she would definitely take anxiety-controlling benzodiazepines, like Xanax. She would be outright severed from the world of reason with pretty much anything else. And she won't try weed, I guess, since she won't get any (just HOW? Imagine that), and benzos are prescription medicines. She will most probably have problems with withdrawal from those pills, but I see that she will quit them and overcome her anxiety by herself at some point.
I clearly see Lilly jumping from nothing to prescription opiates like Tramadol, justifying it with some random crap like fake pains. She is very well-mannered girl, so it, like with Hanako, leaves only prescription medicines for her too. Her addiction likelihood is through the roof, opiates are extremely euphoric and sedative, I just can't do anything, but I see her parachuting pills with some tea, and the next course of events depends on Hisao, with him she comes through withdrawal and quits, without him she slowly degenerates and dies from asphyxiation.
Shizune would probably try most non-harmful drugs, since she will have guts both to get them and to try them out. She would be genuinely interested in hearing-altering drugs (these do exist probably and I don't know what do they do with people with no concept of sound, since they affect one's brain, not ears). I think she will try most of them, yet no more than once or twice, then quit them because drugs suck.
And looking at how does Misha behave for the whole game I can't see her doing anything besides some weird stimulating empathogenic shit she can get from Shizune, like 2cb. Not ecstasy, because she doesn't love everyone, she just laughs and laughs and then comes out depressed (yet still smiling) and awkwardly wanting to mate in the end.

Re: Katawa junkies?
I've never thouht about any of the others, but I'd definitely say Rin was the weed type.
Hell, if it wasn't for the serious stigma Japan has towards cannabis (I read somewhere that weed in Japan is a Yakuza-tier drug) I would say she was a stoner in canon

Aw crap, Japan drug laws, right. While I was googling for this post, I've read that they are quite severe, but I forgot that Yamaku is Japan. Well, disregard my post then, since it all appears to be utterly impossible.Munchenhausen wrote:I've never thouht about any of the others, but I'd definitely say Rin was the weed type.

On top of that I'm sure a certain someone at Yamaku has connections...
Cough Cough pretty sure Akira's in the Yakuza Cough

Not all drugs are illegal, and alcohol is a legal drug.
And Akira canonically abuses it, and you can see the canonical moment where Hanako starts abusing it (during her birthday party), by using it as an anti-anxiety drug.
Also, this is probably a thread for NekoDude, given what he's doing with his stories...

Re: Katawa junkies?
Where does Akira abuse it? She's old enough to drink legally and she doesn't get drunk in a single scene.
Alcohol isn't seen as a drug in Japan anyway. Quite the opposite, it's an essential social lubricant.

Re: Katawa junkies?
Heh heh hehe. Yeah. People are going to smoke weed in Japan.
Obviously, you don't know Japan's views on marijuana.
In Japan, marijuana carries a different reputation than it does in English speaking countries. First off, it's EXTREMELY illegal. If you're caught with it, expect to serve a long jail sentence and pay some heavy fines. A single joint will get you five years of hard labor. It's also extremely expensive and hard to get. Further, it's something solely associated with deep rooted evil, hardened criminals, and the Yakuza.

The part where she's several beers in, in a public park, and also a fair amount of what sure looks like buzzed driving happens.Guest Poster wrote:Where does Akira abuse it? She's old enough to drink legally and she doesn't get drunk in a single scene.

She's extremely functional, and has a very high tolerance, but I could see her going down the wrong side of a slippery slope very easily.
Of course, the thread was meant to discuss katawa junkies, so Akira is somewhat offtopic, but hey. Hanako's vulnerable to the same problem, and she doesn't have the tolerance, either.

Re: Katawa junkies?
Lilly's the one who tends to get hooked on things, not Hanako. I haven't seen Hanako trying to sneak in a drink whenever she has the opportunity unlike a certain best friend of hers.
As for Akira, just because someone drinks a couple of beers every now and then doesn't mean they'll jump off slippery slope. Heck, in quite a few work environments in Japan getting drunk on a regular basis is part of advancing your career.

That's not just applicable to Japan, either.Guest Poster wrote:Lilly's the one who tends to get hooked on things, not Hanako. I haven't seen Hanako trying to sneak in a drink whenever she has the opportunity unlike a certain best friend of hers.

As for the topic at hand, I could see Rin trying LSD if it was offered to her. Some say it has a permanent mind-altering effect, although in Rin's case it might actually make her more lucid.
I write the Kagami pseudo-route, which can be found here. It's about Hisao falling in love with a violinist.
Also, a small Saki/Rika piece I wrote.
Check out the Yamaku Library Anniversary thread! I contributed one story, but it's chock-full of 'em.
Also apparently I have an art thread now? I'm not an artist.
I also do edits! Need something proofread? Shoot me a PM and we'll talk.

Re: Katawa junkies?
Weed for Rin...Obviously.
Speed for Emi...Obviously. XD
Hanako would get addicted to Xanax. (Headcanon: To even get the ability to branch out in Lilly's route, she's already on these.)
Lilly has already shown a possible addiction to booze.
Shizune and/or Misha would be caffeine junkies.
Kenji would seek out any number of stimulant drugs to keep him alert, accidentally buy laxatives instead, and blame the feminists.
Nomiya's clearly an LSD man.
Sae's got nicotine.
Mutou does not use but he does produce. The "science club" inevitably turns into a Breaking Bad-style drug-slinging operation between Mutou and Hisao.
Oh, and Nurse downs Viagra like candy which is why we rarely ever see Meiko (and also the real reason Emi ended up in a wheelchair).

Lilly never sneaks anything either. She very conspicuously brings the stuff out.Guest Poster wrote:sneak

Re: Katawa junkies?
I know you're not serious here, but how the fuck Emi and amphetamines go together? I'd rather see Schizu randomly gulping them, it's more in her character.Potato wrote:Speed for Emi...Obviously. XD
And as for Kenji, he's on heavy deliriants, like amanita muscaria. I mean, he's running around paranoid, seeing things that aren't there, afraid to leave his room for long, because god knows what will he encounter somewhere in Yamaku.

I find this very weird. Why? A drug that makes people mellow and agreeable is evil Yakuza stuff?Oddball wrote:In Japan, marijuana [is] something solely associated with deep rooted evil, hardened criminals, and the Yakuza.
Though that was just Hisao's guess.Guest Poster wrote:Lilly's the one who tends to get hooked on things
She was plenty interested at the birthday party. And the removal of inhibitions must have been a very liberating feeling for someone so inhibited. (I've long held that drunk Hanako is awesome Hanako.)I haven't seen Hanako trying to sneak in a drink whenever she has the opportunity
Agreed. In fact, I saw that park-beer scene as her loosening herself up and/or drowning sorrows regarding the news she was about to drop.As for Akira, just because someone drinks a couple of beers every now and then doesn't mean they'll jump off slippery slope. Heck, in quite a few work environments in Japan getting drunk on a regular basis is part of advancing your career.

Other possibilities: Adderall, Clonazepam, RitalinHanako would get addicted to Xanax. (Headcanon: To even get the ability to branch out in Lilly's route, she's already on these.)
I could see him trying a lot of things in an attempt to be like famous artists. Mescaline, opium, absinthe, cocaine, even heroin.Nomiya's clearly an LSD man.
I know I've seen this proposed before…Mutou does not use but he does produce. The "science club" inevitably turns into a Breaking Bad-style drug-slinging operation between Mutou and Hisao.
He probably has a prescription pad, so he can go completely nuts.Oh, and Nurse downs Viagra like candy
I think he meant her attempts to skip being carded. (Jazz club, fancy date)Lilly never sneaks anything either. She very conspicuously brings the stuff out.Guest Poster wrote:sneak
