Re: Telling friends and/or family?
A few friends know I play KS and usually jest and banter and joke with me about it. Thankfully, because I am not a easily butthurt nerd who cry to mommy everytime somebody makes fun of my favorite cripple fucker simulator, I laugh long with them and crack cruel jokes about KS and the fandom.

Re: Telling friends and/or family?
I sent a copy for a friend, tho I'm not sure if he played it .. Didn't want to annoy him from constantly reminding him to.
Gave the link to another friend as well. Status unknown.
I couldn't really recommend it to every friend I know, because of the language barrier, and most of they see VN's as boring
Might recommend it to some more friends if I had the chance

I didn't play KS for the longest time because I thought it was a hentai game focusing on a disability fetish. It was only after my friend was talking about it and told me it wasn't like that, that I decided to play.
Re: Telling friends and/or family?
Perhaps, but you get the point. Pornographic content might have been a better choice of words.Heartless Wanderer wrote:Exactly, goddammit. Sex does not equal porn. Lots of movies and books have sex scenes in them and aren't considered pornographic. And yeah, KS is a fair bit more graphic, but at the same time it's realistic and relatively tasteful about it. You know, odd thing: I'm not exactly innocent when it comes to this type of thing, but I never once found myself especially aroused during a KS sex scene. Why? Not because it was poorly done or repellant in any sense, just because by the time I got anywhere near any of it I was too wrapped up in the story and characters.OtakuNinja wrote:Believe me, KS in not hentai. Moonlight Lady is hentai. Ikki Tōsen/Battle Vixens is very close to hentai. KS is not hentai.Pokeman wrote:due to the fact it does contain hentai.
Note: It was the already mentioned cousin who gave me BV. I still haven't forgiven him.
The worst that can be said is that the images that are used during sex scenes could pass as mild hentai, and that the concept could very well have been skewed into a full-blown hentai had the dev team deigned to take it in that direction. The fact that they did NOT, and instead made it into a deep and compelling story with memorable characters and engaging plotlines says a lot about it, I think. On those merits alone I think it deserves to be given a shot by just about anyone. Uh, provided they are reasonably close to legal adulthood or past it, anyway.
There's some of that.

Re: Telling friends and/or family?
I understand your feels, OP, and part of my problem was solved by attempting to introduce changes into my life.
Part of it comes from the fact that I have a lot of internet friends who I hold actually very close, and the thing with that is it's easier not to care what they think. Most of them are somewhat understanding (and have even put up with my rants). The other part comes from the fact that I have a reputation for being an odd guy, but I don't like having to veil my interests because the don't mesh with some of my friends. I've resulted to sharing references or referring to characters completely out of context, and while it generally just washes over my friends without a care (or a brief bit of confusion), it satisfies my need to talk about it at least a bit. And lastly I recently met a guy who's a bit more of an otaku, so I can at least talk to him openly about it, although because he doesn't play himself it's not the same type of thing (and frankly, because I'm trying to help him out of a relationship-caused-depression-vortex, it's probably not a great idea to discuss).
Lastly, I just got good at daydreaming.

Re: Telling friends and/or family?
I Actally downloaded this game and didnt play it at all for the longest time, but after like 2-3 months i was on skype with my friend who said he found an awesome game.
Ofc it was katawa and he convinced me to play. Well...i got hooked. i played like 3 stories and the secret ending (sshhhh) in a couple of days.
We talked about the game for hours on end and still are the only two who play it from our friend group and actually thats the best.
Cool to have a secret between us
We have talked about it pretty openly but nobody of our friends seems to really care about katawa or that we play it.

Re: Telling friends and/or family?
I don't see a need to share my niche interests with everyone. In fact, one of the audio programs that I listen to (if you're curious, it's the weekly Bronyville podcast) has reminded me that it's unwise to pester people by advocating favorite shows and fandom, and that it's equally unwise to have shame and feel insecure about favorite shows and fandom.
Back during college, it seemed easy to find other people who enjoyed animation, comics, and games. That was ten years ago. Now it seems rare to find fellow adults who have any interest in them, or who have anything positive to say about them. This is another reason why I rarely talk about my hobbies in public.

Growing up, I was aware that many of the video games that I liked did not include multiplayer, were dull to look at, and lacked action or quick pacing. (If you're wondering, the games I liked included SimCity, Shingen the Ruler, MULE, as well as the early installments of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.) Even today, I'm not interested in most video games. I gave top-sellers like Halo and Team Fortress 2 a chance, but I just didn't enjoy them.Glitter Freeze wrote:I couldn't really recommend it to every friend I know... most of they see VN's as boring

Well, I definitely agree that one shouldn't feel insecure about their interests, nor pester people about them. I do feel a certain urge to share my thoughts on things, though, and that's perfectly natural. When we find something we like, it's as if getting the word out is our way of showing support. You know what I mean?
There's a difference between that and pestering, of course--the difference being knowledge of when to stop.

True, but sometimes the problem is that you know some really small minded people who are real eager to judge everyone else.Heartless Wanderer wrote:Well, I definitely agree that one shouldn't feel insecure about their interests, nor pester people about them. At which point I would personally just take a "Yeah, you can go fuck yourselves" attitude and pay them no mind, but that's just me not giving a shit.TunaSandwich wrote:True, but sometimes the problem is that you know some really small minded people who are real eager to judge everyone else.Heartless Wanderer wrote:Well, I definitely agree that one shouldn't feel insecure about their interests, nor pester people about them. Re: Telling friends and/or family?
Most of my friends already know that I play KS and I even managed to get a few to download it too. One of my friends got into it completely by accident. We were at a local cafe when I decided to play KS when all off the sudden my friend says "hey, what's that?" while I was going through Emi's route again. I let him play until he got to Yamaku and then he asked me to download it for him on his laptop. About a week later, his laptop screen quit so I let him play Hanako's route on my laptop when we hung out and I deserve everything you may think of but I actually managed to trick him into getting Hanako's bad ending first when you ask her if you either want to call it a day or go into town. The look on his face later was just priceless! I admit I was a jerk for doing that but I just had to. To make it up to him, I paid for his drink and promised to show him her good ending and the good ending for Lilly.

I have told about KS to handful of my friends now. They were little sceptical at first, but some of them gave it a shot. One of them has played all routes now, he said that he couldn't stop reading on his first route I'm sure that we will see him here sometime. Another friend told me that he isn't interested (he says that a lot, but eventually breaks...) and next time I saw him. He said that he has watched 26 parts on Youtube (ChilledChaos's let's play) Others haven't really started yet, but they will sometime soon.
I haven't told to my family, but my sister saw my backgroundpicture (Hanako playing pool), and asked if I'm now interested in japanese anime. She has seen the picture now many times, but hasn't noticed the scars yet

@Zilveri: Smack him for watching that. He's ruining it by not playing himself.

Re: Telling friends and/or family?
He told me that his computer is kinda broken so he can't play it now. He told first that it's garbage and wouldn't watch that, but then it happened. I wouldn't even be here, if ChilledChaos wouldn't told about continuing KS on his channel. I was like: "Katawa Shoujo? Is it a fps or rpg?" Luckily I checked it out and here I am now.Xanatos wrote:Fixed.TunaSandwich wrote:Chilled's lets play of KS is not hilarious
