Recommend a VN

So recently I've been listening to the Deardrops opening over and over and over again. And I did play Kira Kira a while ago, and... well... I really didn't like it, to be perfectly honest (I believe have a few posts on this thread to that effect). But, I recall somebody mentioning here that people who dislike Kira Kira usually prefer Deardrops instead. So I do plan on playing it. My question would be whether or not I should play Curtain Call first.

There is a cameo and a few references in Deardrops with a character from Curtain Call, but no you don't need to play it beforehand. Cameo aside they have no relation.

So I've finished Fate/Stay Night, and here I am recommending it
The story's great, and unlike most if not all other VNs I've read, it's obvious that it has a fantasy setting from the very beginning. The routes are nicely varied, completely different events happen depending on which route you're on. The only thing wrong with it is the way the H-scenes are done. It makes you feel as though you're watching some crappy porno with a hastily thrown-together plot.

Other than that it is well-done.
Now on to Kanon!

I'm really surprised that some people have actually heard of Deardrops. Because err, as you can probably take a wild guess, I'm a pretty big fan of them - may be a bit sad but I have all their songs on my iPod and everything lmao. Even inspired me to start learning the violin as well as practicing guitar more! They're seriously under-rated, all of OVERDRIVE's work is brilliant - their artwork is the thing that most caught me at first. So I'd recommend anything like Edelweiss, Dengeki Stryker, Deardrops and Kira Kira.

It's a shame they haven't released more but if anyone's interested, an anime for Kira Kira and Deardrops will be released pretty soon and I'm certainly looking forward to that.
I hope 'Cross The Future' gets translated soon too!

Quite the opposite of bold... it's quite a solid statement, according to the first page of this thread.

Narcissu - has a similar theme to Planetarian, told in a more grounded (and minimalistic) way, and probably the better of the two. Given its short length and size, there's little reason not to try this.

Short, free, serious, minimalist but good looking, as well written as any VN you can read in English. Give Side 2nd a spin also, which is not as good as the first one but still one of the best VNs available.

Canonized in 4LS as the best VN ever made, and for a good reason. Frugal yet expressive, emotive but not overdone, this VN is not perfect but it's as close as anyone's so far made it. Side 2nd is great as well, Dritte Welt is not.

The 1st side is about 2 hours long. I'm not sure about the 2nd and the 3rd.

And you have to try Scarred before Narcissu. They used some of the songs from Narcissu, so you won't get the same feels if you play Narcissu first.

In all seriousness, though, I'm getting pretty excited about starting Deardrops (it'll probably happen this weekend, when I get the chance), so I'll most likely be posting my thoughts on it in a couple weeks. I finished Kira Kira a couple months ago, too, and I'm pretty sure you can find what I thought of that somewhere earlier in this thread.

How come? It's not a particularly obscure VN. Actually it's quite a good gateway, I know that some people have started the VN journey via Deardrops.

The songs in Deardrops were easily the best part of it, well in my opinion anyway. Magic Mirror was incredibly catchy, and it managed to turn one of the stupidest scenes I have ever seen in anything, into something that was actually enjoyable.

Whoa, I see what you mean actually. When I first started, it was nowhere near that popular! (2nd page, popularity of 15.50)
I take it back then. I'm glad though, I certainly think it kickstarted me into reading more VN's too. I'm sure many others will enjoy it.

I completely forgot about that song! Not my favorite but I agree that it can be catchy haha.

Yeah I kind of agree with you about Kira Kira. I really did like it butttttt, as you said (page 47), the endings were pretty weak (not all of them though). Sarina's was ruined. And the thing about it seeming like two stories? Yeah that too. The whole thing should've been more about the band AND the romance, rather than the band at first then into the individual character routes. Deardrops is certainly the better one (in my opinion) but overall, I think Kira Kira is still well worth playing too.

I don't care if it isn't translated. I can read some Japanese, and the rest is easy to translate via google.
