Well I think anime has been developed to make the people really good looking.

I saw this post on 4chan quite a while ago about this but I don't think I could find it again.

Circumstances kind of forced the meetings, though. None of the girls exactly introduced themselves directly; except Shizune and Misha, but that was sort of made their job.

Emi literally slams into him in the hallway. In terms of 'meet cute' you don't get much more neutral than that. You could argue later meetings weren't necessary, but they were the result of Nurse's directive to seek out physical activity - Emi just happened to be there.

He blunders into the room with Lilly. Looking for the library, of all things, Hisao stumbles into the room and basically stays to ask for directions. Her introduction comes closest to being direct, though she certainly didn't seek him out.

He's sent to the art room for supplies where he meets Rin. Being the only person in the room, and not knowing the lay of the land, he asks her about the supplies. The ensuing situation just happened naturally, strange as it seemed.

He happens to take a seat right next to the Student Council. Now, they're obviously the first ones to talk to him (so to speak), but it's really their job - kinda. Showing the new guy around, making sure he doesn't get lost, and informing him how things work are in their job description. Their desire to seek out assistance with Council work fueled their pursuit of his attention more than any romantic reason, initially.

Hanako really is the only one Hisao approaches directly. However, that first meeting goes awry, and could have been an abrupt end to all their future communications. It's by happenstance that Hanako is with Lilly for their second meeting, and, in that case, it's kismet again.

One thing we should consider about all these girls is that they're all still teenagers - no more than 17/18 or 19, in Emi's case years old. Many people are still growing physically at that age (upward *or* outward...), and haven't yet 'filled out' to what we would consider average (read: imperfect) adult body proportion.
Well I think anime has been developed to make the people really good looking.
More like, really generic looking. People in anime tend to look *very* similar, both in terms of face and build - which is why they often have such outlandish haristyles and outfits to help differentiate them visually. Typically, the only people in anime who *aren't* generically attractive will end up being made really obviously ugly to drive the point home.

Late in Shizune's route, she confesses that there was actually an ulterior motive behind all of their "Join the Student Council!" badgering - she saw that Hisao was feeling depressed and lost and vulnerable, and thought that getting him to join the Council would distract him from his worries and cheer him up. It worked, obviously.

People being generically attractive in fiction is just one of those things that I accept in order to make the whole thing work, like galaxy-spanning societies not having social problems due to relativity, or all of these women being attracted to Hisao.

Suspension of disbelief.
Hanako's favorite joke is The Aristocrats, but she never tells it because Lilly finds it really offensive. Instead, she practices her delivery in front of a mirror when she's alone. It's the only time she never stammers.

I think initially it has nothing to do with attraction. Your choices cause Hisao to start paying attention to a particular girl, and that results in her assessing him similarly. Aside from that, he's the new guy, the exchange student, the untested element. Being surrounded by the same people for the past couple years, their relationships are fairly well-established, but Hisao is a wild-card.

In steps this moderately handsome guy, causing ripples in the fabric of their lives. In truth, only five girls actually develop any kind of realistically romantic feelings for him; out of a school containing anywhere from 170-220 students (based on the class size and the assumed 4 classes per grade level), more than half of which are female (according to Kenji). If there are 100 girls at the school, then that's only 5% of them; which is a realistic number in context, considering proximity and normalization.

Even if you only count his senior class, that's still somewhere around 35-43 girls, which is then only about 12-15%, which isn't a terribly high number either. As far as canon goes, Hisao probably isn't quite the 'Master of Romance' the fans envisioned.

TL:DR
Hisao is oversold in terms of being attractive.

This is true. I guess it can seem preposterous because he meets all of them in rapid succession, but due to the game's presentation we don't get to see all of the unnoticed girls passing him by in the hallway. Maybe that's where all the uggies are.

Hanako 86/56/84
Lilly 89/61/89 (Almost perfect LOL)
Rin 83/54/78
Shizune 88/52/85
Misha 85/58/84
That is way too many coincidences for one school ^^ In my school I think there is only 1 person (or maybe 2) who has this proportions...

What I find weird is that those are Misha's proportions. she clearly looked the chubbiest of all the girls

These look right. Lilly is the only one with a larger waist than Misha, but Lilly is way taller. That would make Misha the "less thin" of the group.

And Kenji did note that there were way too many good looking girls at the school. It has to be part of the conspiracy (or as someone else mentioned, due to generic anime cuteness). :)

Actually, I've found that having an entire cast of good-looking people is *more* likely to break suspension of disbelief, at least in my case. Hollywood has a nasty habit of not letting you on-screen unless you're gorgeous, with the only exceptions seemingly made being for comedic actors who play off of their imperfect looks for the sake of 'everyman' comedy. When's the last time you saw a good drama or non-comedic romance story where the male lead was overweight, or the female lead wasn't unrealistically pretty? It's kind of hard to relate to stories where everybody looks better than you do, yet still act like they don't.

In particular, as a fat person, I find the dearth of overweight characters in virtually all forms of western media downright off-putting. Given how large a percentage of Americans there are who are at least *somewhat* pudgy, it's hard to believe that Hollywood won't throw them a bone every so often by putting in more realistically-proportioned actors/characters to make things more believable. As an added bonus, seeing folks of similar build to themselves might help a lot of them overcome the crippling self-image problems that years of media saturation of physically perfect people have inflicted on them.

You hear that, Hollywood? You're the reason people think poor Misha is fat. It's *your* fault we have so many folks out there (of *both* genders) who are afraid to put themselves out on the dating market because they mistakenly think they're hideous. The collective lack of self-esteem of a nation is on your head.

At least there are a few webcomic authors out there who realize that people do, in fact, have different builds. But sadly, not enough of them. :?

Body proportions.

The first thing that comes to mind is this:
Shizune vs. Lilly's conflict began with this -
Lilly 89/61/89 (Almost perfect LOL)
Shizune 88/52/85
More specifically:
Lilly 89
Shizune 88
Yes sirs and gents, boobs. Glorious boobs, oppai, breasts, you name it. One fine morning after PhysEd class, Lilly accidentally took Shizune's bra, wore it, and state that "it's a little tight".

And thus, hilarity ensues

They say they hate Shizune? What is this? BLASPHEMY!

I've honestly been trying to find this alleged Misha fat. No luck so far. Maybe she's Hollywood fat, as in not a disgusting toothpick.

Didn't the devs say they pretty pulled those measurement numbers out of their hind quarters? 'cause I'm pretty certain I've heard something like that many times before.

Amen, brother. Misha's not fat. She's normal. Same for Lilly. Shizune and Emi are on the slenderer side, in spite of the former's ample bosom. Hanako is pretty slim in her sprites, but seems less so in her CGs. Rin is stated to be skinny bordering on malnourished, but her CGs and sprites suggest otherwise, for the most part. So I dunno what to think in regards to those two.

Misha is slightly chubby, but you would hardly notice it unless you were specifically looking out to confirm that fact (I think i noticed it more in a CG from Act 1, one of the Shangai scenes that lead you to Shizune's road). I haven't played Shizune's route though, so maybe there is a CG or something where you notice that better.
