A good love story is a good love story. Doesn't matter what gender you are, anyone can appreciate a well-made piece like KS.
Damn agree my friend. Everyone can enjoy KS thou. Even some of my female classmate playing this game and ended with some of them is crying (especially hanako path) :D

I could imagine the main character as the girl, and has 5 romance choices to make. I wouldn't bother with chasing after men. So I don't understand how straight women would do the same for women. You're put in the roll of the man and make decisions for him time to time to strengthen your relationship with a girl. Would this really appeal to straight females like it would males?
What if life had a soundtrack similar to Katawa Shoujo's ?

Well, not in exactly the same way. If this was a "roles reversed" game (one girl, five guy love interests) then you'd be much more likely to see a polarity shift in the demographics that play it. Look at Twilight - it's immensely popular with girls, as it is a story of a girl and her decisions involving several hunky men. Would Twilight really appeal to straight males like it would females? Sure, there's likely a few out there, but they're most likely more engrossed in the story and characters as a whole rather than the "put myself in the protagonist's shoes" mentality that these genres allude to.

Ugh... I feel dirty for having brought up Twilight as an example. Gross.

My goodness, you make it sound like the game is only appealing because you get to date girls.
Girls like romances, you know? Just because the main character is male, doesn't make it unappealing to them.
However, the fact that it's a hentai game, turns girls off because then it sounds like something for perverts.
Which maybe it is(although, from what I've seen it sounds like you guys are too into the feels to be pervy), I don't know.
Buuut, if straight females like it, it means the story and characters are good and that the appeal for the game isn't just from "being a pervert".

BASICALLY, KATAWA SHOUJO IS A GOOD GAME, SO EVERYONE CAN ENJOY IT.
That's how it should be.

If Twilight had good characters and story, don't you think more guys and girls would like it?
I mean, vampires are cool, right?

Good post, really. Don't feel bad about bringing up Twilight, it's actually a good example for what I meant to say! And going over it again, it makes sense that a few straight women played KS just like a few guys enjoy Twilight. There may not be many compared to the opposite sex but they're still there.

Dude the only reason I played was for the cripple sex.

Well, I can see that being the reason for trying it out, of course.
But you can't possibly say that's the only appealing thing about it...?
I hope?

Eh, to be honest, I don't remember why I played it or how I even found out about it. The demo was cute though, and I was excited when the full version came out.

Yes, exactly. :D

And your post made me remember where I found out about it too *shot*

I was looking for a VN to play and found it on tvtropes 8D
Then I looked at the character pages and thought Lilly sounded awesome. Yup.

I didn't know it was going to have hentai in it, either. Then when it came out, that's when I heard there was hentai in it.

Yeah, the cripple hentai thing...

I tried to recruit one of my friends to the game, but he only wanted the hentai. He didn't went far in it, so he just abandoned it...

He wasn't going to understand it really well because his english is not really good...

Am I the only one that got KS for cuteness and got instead feelings? D:

Hello from the 2%! As a gay male, both me and my boyfriend like this game because it takes an interesting and difficult subject and handles it really well, and the characters are great.

Yeah... i'm sure you'd spot bad English when you hear it. And yes, you are the only one who got into it for the cuteness as far as i know. I personally got into it because i was expecting a chance to write a funny review for something that was offensive for the sake of being offensive because i heard the concept first and wound up feeling impulses from portions of my brain i thought shitty dramas like Rosario Vampire rotted.

Anyway i GUESS i'm a straight male. It's been a while since i found a person in real life appealing in an emotional way. I guess i could mention i find women sexually attractive but i don't know if it counts when i'm sure a lot of women would agree with me on Mariska Hargitay and Uma Thurman and the 2D things i jerk off to don't really count.

Straight male... kinda. :?

I got into KS 'cause I saw a small picture of Hanako in the newspaper. Since the Swedish government thinks manga related things equals child pornography, I thought it was interesting. I mean, it was in the country's largest newspaper, so it must be special. :)
