It's cool how adaptable hockey is

In my area, there's a program for people with different handicaps to play hockey in. It covers mental handicaps, but then it also covers physical ones too. There's special coaches that know sign language, for folks like Shizune. They have sleds, so Emi wouldn't even need prosthetics to play. They have a program for teaching amputees with only one arm to play, so Miki could join in if she wanted.

Anybody else have stuff like this in their area?

I don't know of any programs like that, but our school's water polo team has a one-legged player. He's surprisingly good, and the tallest person on the team, ironically.

I was actually the captain of my high school ice hockey team, and I remember during high school doing research on the sport. I found the there was a very high turnout for handicapped ice hockey, which involves the use of sleds like you mentioned, and read some articles about some of the athletes that were projected to be hard hitters in the Special Olympics. Then I graduated and drank a lot, so I can't say I've really followed much of the special hockey leagues. That said I've always loved that even those with physical disabilities were able to enjoy my favorite sport just like me. I remember reading that of all the sports in the Special Olympics, ice hockey had one of the strongest dynamics and greatest impacts on its players. It's truly inspiring, and humbling really.

Sledge hockey (or sled hockey) is pretty damn competitive. Neat to see during the Paralympic Games. USA won the last tournament in Sochi.
