Not saying that this is the case in this (although Lilly is also notably facing AWAY from Hanako and Shizune, and probably trying to pretend that they're not interacting...) However, while Hanako is quite cute... I could see someone being affected really badly by their love interest picking Hanako over them. Basically, thinking that they're uglier than the horribly disfigured burn victim.

That gave me an idea... what if Lilly actually did know Hanako when she was little, and it turns out that she was guiding her from behind the scenes since childhood because she knew that they'd be friends one day? I love the way in this one while Hideaki is (of course) dressed in lingerie on him, he's just looking at the viewer like 'deal with it'. It looks like it could be from a Roald Dahl book as well...a weird, weird Roald Dahl book. 'Hisao and the gender-confused boy.'
