I think that falling back on the idea that Lilly would only fall in love with her because of her blindness is in itself antithetical, because as we see in the VN itself, Lilly can see faces, and whatever she happens to get her hands on. Hanako might not see it that way, but if the relationship ever did get to the extent that it has reached in this vignette, I presume that would be an understanding that she would have to reach eventually.

Oh, I'm not trying to say that it's actually true. I'm saying that it's likely that there would always be a part of Hanako that believes it. Whether it's true or not is pretty much moot. It would be different if this happened, say, ten years down the road, after Hanako had had other relationships, but since this is her first love, it will likely do more to stunt her growth in that regard than help her come to that kind of understanding -- and believe me, such understanding is not in any way necessary to reach the point in a relationship we see here.

Next book! The last one was short, so this is rather rapid, but remember discussion is open until the next meeting. Chosen mainly because I wanted something recent and the author is active, and also because AU's are great.

I actually have a fondness for fan fiction stories that hide who the subjects are until enough information has been revealed. It isn't always done well. I remember one where the narrator turned out to be Hanako, but she called Hisao "Hicchan" during it, naturally leading the readers to think that Hisao married Misha.

I third Mirage's and Helbereth's comments. I literally posted my opinion of that fic earlier today, though I actually liked it.

While I appreciate more discussion on my works, I agree with the other posters sentiments. Not much point having two active threads discussing the same topic.

I'd at least wait until a story hit page two or three before I'd consider it eligible myself.

But that's me.

One of my shorts is like that; up until the very end, it's uncertain who the narrator is, nor whomever they're talking about in their reflections.

Should we not then?
FYI, my method of choosing a fic is as follows:
*go on the forums 1 hour later then intended*
*randomly hit a page of the archive or library*
*find a cool title*
*read 3 sentences*
*post*
It's not the best system, and as such we dont have to go through with it, is everybody ok with that?

I think if a story is still being bumped to the front page, its eligibility should be considered based on a few factors:

1) Is this a necro?
For our purposes, we'll consider a "necro" a story that is either finished or has been abandoned by its author, and only graces the front page currently because someone recently rediscovered it buried under however many pages, or out of the archive, and decided to post a comment. For instance, the Pseudo Pseudo Suzu Route by Scissorlips frequently finds its way back to the front, but it's a completed story, so it's fair game.

2) Is it especially recent, or being updated regularly?
Especially recent could mean anything, but considering the traffic flow here (which is surprisingly high) I think if a story has been updated in the past month, or has only been posted within that time-frame, it should be allowed to age and garner its own commentary. My own story (Tomorrow's Doom) would fall into this category since it's being updated ~monthly (I'm due within the next week... God willing), even though it isn't being bumped to the top constantly.

3) Is it still an active topic?
If you view the front page often enough, you start to notice that, even though they're technically on the front page, several of the threads there are essentially lifeless. Usually only about the first ten or so topics get much activity, so most things that are below that line can technically be considered off the front page. This isn't always the case, and forum traffic can differ greatly from week to week, so this is a bit of a gray area, but one can reasonably assume about half the actual front page isn't being viewed and commented upon with any noticeable frequency.

I think that book-club-wise, I'm a little bit shallow in terms of how I'd choose a 'book'. I like being surprised, and there's a lot of unexplored stuff, or even stuff I've read but not with a slow and critical eye. I would vote for older pieces because of that, since I'm relatively new here. But I'm fine with anything that has meat on it, so to speak.
