Until Death Do Us Part

This was just a small school assignment related to another novel, but I thought I might as well upload it here. Insert your favorite heroine as the mother. ^^'
The old woman looked at her husband, who was standing beside their daughter Erika at the kitchen table. Even though more than thirty years had passed since their wedding, he hadn't aged one bit. His smooth face, always wearing that childish smile, was untouched by time.
“Erika, my dear, why don't you join us for lunch today?” she said.
“Sorry mother, I've got to get back to work.” Erika replied in a somewhat sad voice.
“That's unfortunate, but I hope you'll come visit again soon.”
“I will. Bye, mother.” Erika walked out the door.
How rude, the woman thought, she didn't even say goodbye to her father.
Outside the house, a friend waited for Erika in her car.
“So, how was it?” the friend asked as Erika approached.
“Same as usual. I don't think she'll live much longer, so maybe it's best this way. I wouldn't want to hurt her with the truth. After all, father died months before I was even born.
