All in all, a nice job, bhtooefr!
If I'm honest, I feel that last chapter was a tad fast, maybe because it was about 1/3 made up of lyrics. That being said, I appreciate this fic is pretty song-central, so I can't complain :)

Awesome continuation!

I'll have to join the choir on this one and say that ending passed me by all too fast. It was literally over before I knew it. If I may impart my knowledge of the craft, I believe that, due to storytelling conventions, most of us may have been expecting a climatic conflict to occur. In this case, fighting words.

That being said, it was good while it lasted.

Here's the soundtrack, FWIW:

Meant to get it posted yesterday, but didn't get around to it.

The reason for the last two songs (which haven't appeared yet) will become apparent a month (minus a day) from now, I'm planning a short in this continuity for that, for release 2014-03-14. (This is separate from the project that will truly continue the story (and I haven't been able to get myself to work on that), but the short will be set 2009-03-14.)

Edit 2014-04-30: Removed the last two songs from the playlist, as I never got around to the thing I was going to get around to.

Finally putting in my comments ...

1) I liked the short chapters. They were all right to the point.
2) I didn't mind the short ending. To me, the actual climax of the story was in the chess game where Hanako stands up for herself.
3) I liked the chess game a lot, in that the moves reflected the story. That took inspiration.

Oh, and by the way ... Professional chess players often lose very quickly. Many play very sharp, unbalanced openings that can result in either a won or a lost game pretty fast.

*ahem*

YAY!

I was hoping this story would get a run-on, and it did! I'm glad you gave it a happy ending.
