Is it because of the fact that Mutou was inspired from Doctor Who? Half of the british adolescents have been crazy for his various actors throughout years...

He really does resemble David Tennant quite a lot

And thinking about it Mutou is really likable in some ways, if he "takes care" of the other students and helps them finding their way in life like Hisao and science its understandable that a lot would have a little crush on him, just because he cares that much for his students

God, he's awesome. Just like you both said, he's caring but awkward and he's based off of Dr. Who. Win win ;D

Also I can identify with his scatterbrain character That and the way he is often depicted to walk into his lesson late and halfway through a lecture reminds me off my old Chemistry teacher.
