To answer the question: Yes. But it's not something you tell just anybody because it leads people to conclusions. Some people would be weirded out by the concept of a visual novel, much less a dating sim, and add onto that the subject matter and the fact you have sex with disabled girls. Most people won't be able to look past the fact that in order for you to have knowledge of the game, you're at least familiar with some pretty unconventional tastes.

I've told a few friends about it because of the positive impact the game had on my life. When I first downloaded it, I was in the worst depression I've ever experienced, and damned near suicidal. I downloaded the game after having heard of it, thinking it was one of those "I can't hate myself any more than I already do, so let's play a game made by 4chan where you fuck crippled chicks."

Oh how wrong I was about the game.

The game itself, and the story of its origins, changed me. I thought that if a group of strangers from 4chan could come together long enough to make this game, and have it be so profound in the story and subject, then what the hell am I doing with my life?

Since then, I've lost weight, got a much better paying job, taken up new hobbies, got back into writing (and writing a Saki route for this), got a better place to live, a cat, etc. My life has improved in a bunch of ways. I still struggle sometimes, but overall I'm a much happier and better person than I was.

Katawa Shoujo wasn't the only factor in this, but it definitely was the kick in the ass I needed to get going in the right direction.

So yeah...a few close friends and relatives that noticed the change asked me "Hey, so, what happened? You seem like a different person now. What was it that finally turned you around?" And I answer "Funny you should ask that..."

No, I don't know anyone who could understand. (With the whole VN concept, romance-based game, and the fact that the girls have disabilities*)

*I'm surprised that many here manage to explain it well, it seems very difficult for me.

PS : I have edited to add the "don't", sorry for my bad english.

It's a very awkward conversation.

"Look, there's no way this isn't going to sound horrible, but I need you to stay with me here..."

I once told a guy "It's like a book but also like an anime but also it has music and is like a video game but also it's not exactly any of those things." and it's probably the most specific description of KS I've ever given to anyone face-to-face.

I'm in my University's Contemporary Science Fiction club. I discuss KS with people in it on a very frequent basis, as well as fan fiction.

Shit's addicting, yo.

I've told 2 cousins of mine and they have seen me play it and only one has played it but they are too young to understand why the game bombards you with the "feels".

If someone does ends me asking what its about, I dont think im going to bother to explain whats it about, just a simple explanation that its a VN in a high school theme and send them in blindly. I mean if they are even slightly interested they will research it themselves and if they think its just basically porn well idc, their loss.

The only reason I told my best friend is because he's the only person that can accept/tolerate the bizarre stuff that I say sometimes, so even if he took it the wrong way, he'd just take it as one more weird thing I'm into and leave it at that. He's the type of guy where I can jokingly go, "well at least she's still warm!" after doing a fatality on Sonya in MK and get a laugh out of him instead of a disgusted look and a restraining order.

I've told several people. In fact aside from one (he won't/can't play it because of the r18 content, but he's fine with the rest of it. Mainly because his folks would freak and he's not into porn in any case  ) they all downloaded and played/read it.

I went to a college that had about as many nerds as your average anime convention, KS was freely discussed there.
Hell, someone was playing it on his laptop in the cafeteria

My mom. I think we were talking about my grades or something, and I was just like, "I read this novel about cripples and it made me cry." and she was like, "That's nice. You should work on raising that geometry grade."

Did you remind her that shapes and angles have nothing to do with getting a disabled girlfriend?

No, but I totally should have.

I told my girlfriend about it; I persuaded her to try it after I told her it "broke both of my legs and put me in a feelchair".

I've also recommended it to a couple of friends whom I know are fans of the genre.
