Cheers.

I have now proven my worth t omy department (who facepalemed just as hard when they first heard that I havd jsut bought a new set of ridiclous headphones). The ones I'm buying are the new release of the Grados (last full row, second from right)

Also, this is a newer version of this picture, and now inclues my *current* headphones (K240s) which makes me feel a whole lot better about myself.

I would have been able to give you this right away, if I had any idea of what you meant. I thought you were talking about something with the KS girls in headphones.

Yeah I was eating lunch with one hand and discussing the headphones that I had jsut bought with mates t the same time.

I *did* say that it was not KS-related on at least two occasions though.

That Picture is orgasmic.

I actually am a proud owner of some Grados. They are the best headphones. Ever. EVER. Careful on the SR-80+ though. You might need to chip in for an amp if you wanna get all their power out.

You have five pairs of cans like those?! That's crazy, man...all the same, you seem to know what you're doing, so I might as well ask - think you could help me find a new pair of headphones for myself? I need to replace my old sennheisers, and I'm not sure what to get.

PS - Nice image.

Grado GS1000.

Well, it actually depends on what you want from your cans: Isolation, Bass response, Clarity, Power, Driving Unit (Headphone amp or an iPod?)

Those are pretty much the defining factors, and those inform your choices.

lol...there's no way I could afford anything like a GS1000, no matter how awesome they may be.... My problem is I need the headphones to use a 3.5mm jack and be decently driven by an iPod classic, or at least a nice pc sound card (under 60 or 80 ohms, I suppose). I was thinking more along the lines of AKG K240, Sennheiser HD280 or Grado SR-80's. I'd like something nicer, but...let's just say college tuition isn't cheap.

Not that anyone who cares even checks this thread anymore, but I just received my Etymotic ER-4S.

First impressions:

They are amazingly clear, but they're not exactly loud.
Also if you're working on a battery-powered device (MP3 player, PSM-700 receiver) then you're going to chew through teh batteries pretty quick.

I have a pair of wireless Sennheiser HDR 120s. I had to get wireless because my last 3 or 4 pairs broke when I was constantly tripping over the wires.

The static/interference gets annoying sometimes, but they've lasted me about 2 1/2 years (compared with around 9 months for my longest-lasting pair of wired headphones). Though, I haven't changed the batteries in those 2 1/2 years either... and it's starting to show as most of the time I only get sound out of one speaker. It took me a lot longer than it should have to notice it too.

Those HD 650s are damn sexy.

Edit: rofl that was some gravedig.

I'm not much of an audiophile, if you want my PortaPros you'll be taking them from my corpse. I used to go through earbuds almost at a once a month rate - these have lasted me over 4 years now.

Good man. You hold on to those Portapros. They'll last forever...provided you don't sit on them like I did.

I actually posted some of my experiences with my headphones on another forum:
Caesius wrote:I just now realized that my left headphone speaker is quieter than the right one.

I have no idea how long it's been like that. I probably set it up that way on purpose, but can't figure out where exactly the setting is.

Oh well!
Caesius wrote:
A-Pod wrote:Is the balance set right in the windows volume control?
Yes.

It doesn't bother me; I'm just curious 'cause I don't remember setting it up this way.

for those who don't know, I'm deaf in one ear. Guess which one, lol!

THE ONE WITH THE QUIETER SPEAKER?!
Yup!
Caesius wrote:So apparently it's not that my left headphone is simply quieter than the right one; it turns out that as I adjust the volume on my headphones the volume inexplicably and randomly becomes unbalanced between the left and right sides. I knew the volume control had been slowly getting more unpredictable, but I'm sure that if I could hear out of both ears then this would irritate the hell out of me.

Guess it's time to replace the batteries. :V

And now for something slightly interesting:
Caesius wrote:sometimes my wireless headphones listen in on phone conversations

just now i turned them on and they should've been transmitting just static but there was a woman talking about some guy taking off all her bra and clothes all casually and i was like "wtf"

then i pressed the windows key to have the computer make a noise and it went away
Caesius wrote:
FR wrote:What frequency does your wireless headphones use?
how would i know? there's just a channel switch that says 1, 2, 3.
Caesius wrote:so i'm about to put my headphones on

i press windows key to turn the transmitter thingie on and turn the headphones on at the same time

for the split second it takes for the transmitter to come on, i once again hear a small piece of a phone conversation

i am trying not to let the computer come on for the next 5 minutes to see if i'll hear a phone conversation again

if i do i will probably not be able to listen for 10 seconds because it will be too awkward
Caesius wrote:it just came back on

they're talking about jewelry and "hollie's party"

and "you can tell what decade you got married" because of the color of their gold ring

60's is white gold, yellow gold is 90's apparently

now they're talking about a gay guy who likes antique jewelry

"they were new when they were given to me" *laughs*

this is such a boring conversation

*windows key*
