How do they track this? Since I've seen mirrors on multiple sites, it can't be from times downloaded... And how would they be able to tell how many people are playing?...

Things like Raptr and Steam displays what people are playing and how long... I know Raptr has Katawa Shoujo so I guess it is through that?

Glad to report that Katawa Shoujo is now
the 3rd most-played game on r/gaming.
It just beat out Battlefield 3 this morning.
