Does it seem to any one else, that if a player has a preference for Rin or Lilly, there second choice will be the other. Also that if a player has a preference for any other girl that they group Rin and Lilly together (usually @ the end). It is like they are to sides of a coin? Thoughts...

I think this is because they are very 'out of the norm' for your usual high-school lady. Either like or dislike 'em I suppose.

Perhaps, that is a valid argument. Weird thing: I basically knew Rin, minus the whole arm thing (ahahhaha) in highschool.

Well, I don't dislike them; I just don't like them quite as much as the rest.

Nah, more like Rin and Hanako for me. One could argue that Hanako and Lilly are some kind of a package deal, though.

Not the case with me. Lilly is my favorite and Rin is my LEAST liked.

Similarly, Rin is my second favorite and Lilly is my least favorite.

Though I want to like her, so I hope her other third acts have some kickass writing.

My current lineup is Shizune > Rin > Hanako > Emi > Lilly.

Shizune is my fave, Lily is my second and Rin is my last so nope for me.

For what it is worth, my favourite is Lilly, and Rin is my second favourite.

I didn't really make a connection, however.

I extracted 51 rankings people posted in the "Favorite girl"-thread http://ks.renai.us/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=382
When the ranking was without ties, I added it as an observation (leaving out side characters like Yuuko, Misha, THE CHESSBOARD etc.).
When there was one tie between two girls, I flipped a coin.
Everything else was discarded.

THE RESULT:

Among the people who ranked Lilly 1st or 2nd (27 observations), the average ranks of the other girls were
Shizune 3.78
Hanako 2.33
Rin 3.44
Emi 4.00
==> People who like Lilly tend to like Hanako too. Emi isn't very poplar among them, though.
This doesn't match with your theory, but I think it makes sense. Lilly is mature and classy while Emi is... not.

Shizune 3.42
Lilly 2.63
Hanako 2.95
Emi 4.32
==> People who like Rin tend to like Lilly too, but they clearly put Emi in the last place.
This is what your theory predicted. Btw, I find it interesting that Rin fans put Emi so clearly in the last place. Maybe it's because Rin has this artistic attitude while Emi is all happy-go-lucky. Or maybe it's the fact that Rin seems to be physically "the most disabled" while Emi is - as somebody stated on the Shimmie - "not broken enough".

Your theory works only in one direction. If somebody likes Rin, he is likely to go for Lilly as well. The other direction is not so clear.

Don't know where a connection between Rin and Lilly would come from. But about Rin fans not liking Emi, While they are friends, they are pretty independent of eachother. Especially Rin from Emi. While Emi takes care of Rin, Rin doesn't contribute that much back into their friendship. Also, Rin's Act 1 ending is a lot more romantic than Emi's lukewarm one.

Also while I have nothing against Lilly don't get me wrong I get the same feeling from her ending. Both Emi's and Lilly's ends don't evoke as much emotion as the others do. Though I feel that may be on purpose as we don't know how any of the arcs really play out and how each story is paced. This is just my opinion though I'm sure you all have your own views on the subject.

My favorites in order:

Rin
Hanako
Shizune
Lilly
Emi

(I know most people put Misha in there somewhere but I've accepted that she won't get her own route... no matter how much I want it )

I detest Hanako, probably for the very reason you like her. I don't see 'she's hard to not like' in any fashion, detestable even for me. Lilly on the other hand speaks her mind, there is nothing wrong with that (she is just more polite about it than Shizune.)

Let me guess, your tastes are simply too refined for us lowly plebeians and sheeple? Or are you gonna pull some of that "I hate the fanbase not the character" nonsense? Or are you just being so shortsighted that you're basing your rankings off of less than the first quarter of the game? And by doing so, assuming that a character who anyone with working brain cells can tell will be pretty dynamic... will, in fact, not change at all?

To end on a more decent note, Lilly is 2nd favorite for me and Rin is 4th, at the moment. Don't really see a correlation there

His tastes probably just differ a bit from those of most of the users here. Hanako's pretty low on my list as well... Had a GF with self-esteem issues once. Can be stressful at times...

About ranking statistics: I have the feeling that Emi and Shizune tend to end up at opposite ends of the popularity spectrum - they sure do in mine. Maybe Panty Supervisor could check that with his database
