Forgive me for going back to the original theme here, but...

I came here out of some sort of depressed desperation. You see, last night I finished Rin's route, good ending. It was my second route. I completed Emi's route last year, and I loved it. It was a blind run, but I was expecting Hanako. When I got Emi, and with all that happened and how I related to Hisao so freaking much, it was...perfect for me. At the time, it was so amazing to me that I couldn't even bring myself to try another girl's route.
So I didn't. Not for a long time anyway.
A full year after that, I decided "Ah, heck with it, let's try again." So I did another blind run, with my only limitation to be not to get Emi's route again. It would hurt to think that I can only get one girl, y'know? So I was starting to try for Shizune, but then I was considering Lilly, and then out of nowhere, I...well, Hisao becomes depressed, and gets drunk and dies in the worst manpicnic of all time. That kicked me in the gut and made something snap in my brain. But enough about that. So I rewound to the last decision and tried again. This time I got Rin, and it was a truly amazing experience, something much greater than Emi's. Longer story short, that run gave me the feeliest feels I've ever had.
So I dealt with those feels (after the first half hour of simply looking at the in-game Extras and listening to the music, of course) by visiting 4chan's /vg/ KS General thread. I fit in well, and had a lot of fun and really enjoyed sharing my feels and knowing there were others there to feel them with me.
Today, though, I got banned. Won't publicly say why, but I did. Sadface. So, finally, after a lot of sadness -- not depression this time, but sadness -- I decided to give these forums that I found through Google a try. I hope I can enjoy them as much as I enjoyed KSG, and I hope I can contribute as well.

This seems like as good a place as any for my first post.

I found this visual novel and this forum through a rather roundabout route. Recently, out of curiosity, and because I enjoy weirdness, I started searching the web for bizarre video games, and I found many Japanese titles on people's lists of weird games. Of course, I've known for a long time that Japan is quite capable of weirdness, so I was not surprised. I had previously heard of visual novels but hadn't paid any attention to them. I found, thanks to the list of weird games, that there seem to exist more than a few that get into strange perversions. Some of them look like they might be entertaining in various ways; I do enjoy finding things that are so weird and/or bad that they are funny. "Water Closet: The Forbidden Chamber" seems to have some potential there, but it is rather disgusting; I don't think I'll acquire that one and strive for 100% completion. Anyway, this line of web searching eventually led me to "Katawa Shoujo." Of course, as countless reviewers have noted, the idea of a disability-themed visual novel with origins at 4chan immediately brings up thoughts of strange perversions. The reviewers said that this thinking couldn't be more wrong, It looked intriguing, it was free, it was available for Linux, and it had a French translation, so I thought it was worth checking out.

It ended up eating far more of my time than I thought it would, and it has been time well spent.

The branches of the story line I have seen so far have been excellent, and the presentation of the subject matter, even including the sex scenes, is tasteful. The emotional impact is high, and the characters are complex and convincing. The artwork is also excellent, and it amazes me how expressive anime/manga-style art can be. The music also fits very well. Often, when I play games, I turn off the sound so that I can listen to something else while playing, but I never do so here because the music seems integral to the story.

So far, I have been through Emi's, Hanako's, and Rin's stories (and the Act 1 bad ending) in English, and I'm just starting Act 2 of Lilly's story in the French translation. I don't know how many women read/play this visual novel; admittedly from my limited experience, the genre seems geared toward men, but this seems like one that both men and women should be able to enjoy. Perhaps being a woman, I see a lot of myself in some of the heroines. I identify most strongly with Rin, and her antics in Act 1 and her full story hit close to home for me. There is also a lot of Hanako in me. Though I am no longer quite so shy as I was when I was a child, there are still times to this day when there are too many people around me and I want to say, "Jedoisallerfairequelquechose!" and run out of the room as fast as I can.

I'm not usually highly active on forums, so you probably won't hear a great deal from me, but this visual novel had a profound impact upon me, so I thought I should come here and say a few things about it.

One of those nights in which I felt like finding a new favorite game.
I was looking for 2 things mainly: open-world games, and good RPG games with as much romance involved as possible.
I ended up in some forum (can't remember which) in a thread detailing people's favorite open-world games, I believe (could be that it was in the RPG with romance category but I'm kinda sure it wasn't), and someone had "Enjoy Katawa Shoujo" as their signature.
I remembered I once read about KS, and it really caught my interest, but I didn't get to try it... So I figured, heck, I feel like trying a new game, why not? :P

So yeah. Found Katawa Shoujo in a forum thread about open-world games. Did you know KS was an open-world?

Basically, I ended up hearing about it through a skype chat I was part of that contained various people on another (pony-related) forum I'm a member of. A couple of guys (who were up to no good) on the chat started talking about it (and making trouble in the neighbourhood), and eventually my curiosity got the better of me so I downloaded it too. After that, these forums weren't exactly hard to find, though I've been fan for a while before I joined here.

I "stumbled" upon KS because one of the Youtube channels I'm subscribed to (Millbee) started a semi-serious and semi-comical (just because of Millbee's personality and stuff) LP of Katawa Shoujo. I found my interest in it (and Millbee playing it) as slightly odd because I (and Millbee has said he wasn't either) am not into anime (nor am I into reading for fun/pleasure). Nevertheless, I found myself growing attached to the game (via Millb's series) as he went through the Hanako route (his first time through).

Since then, Millbee has completed Hanako and Shizune's routes (good endings first and then showing the other endings before moving on) and is currently in the middle of the Emi route. I downloaded the game and have gone through Lilly, Hanako, and Emi's routes on my own and then discovered the forum. I lurked for a while (for a month or two), reading fan-fics (shoutout to Helbereth, Hoitash, Scissorclips, Guest Poster, Trivun, and more), which was another "odd" thing for me (I'm generally not even into the idea of fan-fic).

All in all, I'm glad I found this forum
