So, Nightmare Fuel...

As a frequenter of both the shimmie and twitter, I've noticed there's been some nightmare fuel fan art that's been posted. Of course, being the stupid the curious person I am, I decide that nightmare fuel isn't the most disturbing of things to be seen. Since it is nightmare fuel, i found the images fairly jarring, especially the Hanako and Rin fanart. The Lilly and Shizune/Misha pictures were fairly interesting, and i stared at Shizune's for about five minutes. Later that night, I ended up having a weird dream including Shizune in the bathroom (kinda ironic because i thought that i wouldn't have any dreams about this concept).
I was wondering if anyone in the community actually likes nightmare fuel, or if anyone thinks we should at least put a "cover over the thumbnail" of the image (for lack of a better word).
What is seen cannot be UNSEEN. Some fun facts about memory:
The things either most ridiculous or unrealistic are the things that your mind remembers the most. You never actually "forget" anything, it's more that it is lost or you can't remember it at the moment. There are two types of memory: long term and short term. Your short term can remember around 6-14 simple things within a given time. However,after constant repetition and embedding, the information is stored in long term memory and is never forgotten. So actually,things that are ridiculous or such are never forgotten in a short period ( I would guess them somewhere in between short and long term memory).

The things on the Shimmie don't even register as Nightmare Fuel to me anymore. Try harder, weee!
I've seen some things, man. And some stuff. I wouldn't recommend it!
There's still one image in particular from years past that haunts me to this day, and upon comparison to it, nothing phases me anymore. T_T

The nightmare fuel pictures on Shimmie are, though, very entertaining. I like them a lot. I just wish the big boss would appear already *grin*

These images are very tame and I practically shitted them out in about 20 minutes apiece. I see scarier things in my box of cornflakes. Back in my day you couldn't go to the store without being attacked by Dracula. Sage.

Seeing that at this hour isn't a good recipe for sleeping, y'know well, actually, no, that pic that I don't know what it is and I don't really want to know and the Nightmare fuel fanart is mild compared to what I've seen through my stay in the internets, so I don't really think a censor would be useful, maybe a warning before entering the Shimmie, like "get some soap to wash your eyeballs after your stay, the Shimmie is uncensored".

Nope.
There are
3 types of memory.
Sensory, Short term, long term.
Sensory is any stimuli around you. When you pay attention to any of it, it is transferred into your Short Term memory, or else it is lost.
Short Term Memory's capacity is defined as ( 7 ± 2 ). You can hold more my using a technique called 'chunking', but that's irrelevant. Anyway, anything you do not particularly pay attention to or dwell on will be lost. If that's not forgetting, son, then I don't know what is.
Also, repetition has been proven to be a horrible method of encoding.
And while information in the long term memory may not be 'forgotten', it is possible for information to be irretrievable if the info is not organised correctly or revised. If THAT ain't forgetting, then I have no fuckin' clue as to what is.

The Nightmare Fuel pictures do give me great hope for future development of the
Katawa Shoujo franchise.
Imagine a survival-horror spinoff. A revolutionary new regenerative wonder-drug, produced by the latest bleeding-edge research into stem cells, has been developed that can literally restore and regrow any lost flesh and also repair any physical ailment - thanks to its high-society connections through its benefactors, the Yamaku Academy is accorded the unique privilege of the drug's first public application. Lilly can see again; Hanako's skin is pink and clean; Rin's got by all these years but is now fully appreciating just what a
convenience opposable thumbs are. Naturally, though, things start to go Horribly Wrong. The drug is genuinely effective at restoring bodies... the trouble is, though, that it
doesn't stop. Stem cells running rampant through the patients' tissues have their coding degenerate through multiple replications, and this loss of regular genetic instruction leads to wildly unchecked mutation erupting through the pupils' flesh, warping and shifting them into knotted and spindly aberrations, driven violently insane by the anguish of their traumatic transformations.
In one night the academy is roused not by the cock-crow, but by a cacophony of screaming as the chaotic flesh spawns over the hapless victims as one. Blood paints the walls as the mutant pupils...
express their joy at free and unfettered movement for the first time in their lives, smashing through the walls in paroxysms of rage, compunctionlessly murdering staff and other pupils out of blind red agony or, worse still, rounding up pupils who were not part of the initial wave of administations and forcibly subjecting them to the stem-cell treatment in order to create more mutants - because misery loves company. You take control of Hisao in his quest to find the Salmon Key that will unlock the gate and allow him and the dwindling band of unmutated (and alive) pupils to escape and raise the alarm.
As additional features, Hisao must manage his anxiety meter - marshalling his heartbeat in dark areas, or after encounters with mutants. If he can make his way to the dorms and retrieve his meds, he can also dope himself up with different drug cocktails in order to enhance his abilities - taking care to balance different effects so they don't drive his heart to explode. If he can rescue Mutou, as well, the science teacher can break open the chemistry stores and help solve your lack of weapons, using the mind that never got round to writing research papers to jerry-rigging deadly tools instead.
It combines the surival-horror of classic
Resident Evil with the luridly grotesque enemy designs of
Deep Fear, the intimidating lack of weapons of
Silent Hill (the heroes will have many opportunities to lament Japan's restrictive gun laws), and the light/shadow mechanics of
Alone in the Dark. And moé cripplegirls. Don't tell me it wouldn't be Game of the Year.

That sounds very interesting. too bad any survival horror game makes me have terrible nightmares at night.
(strangely enough, no nightmare fuel pictures I ever saw on the internet have had this efect)

I suppose that it would allow the game to be fully voiced, as well - after all,
Resident Evil's voice-acting is so notoriously poor and stilted (
Deep Fear, the original game's Saturn counterpart, is even worse - rumours abound that Sega tried to save cash by pulling office workers into a back-room and handing them a script!) that a bunch of amateurs breathing heavily into their inbuilt laptop dot-mikes would actually be an improvement.
