Home made KS music.

Post by DavisonInc »

Would be nice if those of us who have the patience to create a song around here could post up some music in a KS style, or like I have done, which is to simply create something that's even slightly KS related.

I wish I could say I had done this, but the cheerful and non-intrusive style of the music featured in KS was too different from the normal garbage I pump out on a daily basis. I can only make serious pieces it seems, but regardless here it is: http://australis-dev.net/media/katawa-attempt_7.mp3

Back story time: The original shell of this song (being the monitor beeps and pads) was created while I myself was lying in a hospital with little to no information of when I would leave. It tells the story of change and the eventual breaking point anyone who has an extended stay experiences when they break down and face the fact they will never have a truly normal life. (Sound familiar?)

I've been told by several people that it originally sounded too repetitive, and they did have a point at the time. So the introductions of various instruments has been greatly delayed. However I feel that the drums are still lacking individuality, so I'll be working on switching from FPC to one of Kontact 4's world kits as soon as I find the space to install them.

Next try: Something that actually sounds as thought it could be implemented in the game. Perhaps with a saxophone...

I could see something like this in game, actually. I do have a big problem with that main synth, whatever it is. It is just far too sharp and it sounds very tacked-on. But yeah, great atmosphere you have going on here.

I have to agree with you about the synth, so I added an absynth 5 and browsed through 40 or so presets, before finally creating my own.

While giving it a spacey feel and the general portrayal of emptiness, it does allow the focus to switch over to the remaining instruments.

And another one I whipped up in twenty minutes here: http://australis-dev.net/media/Is%20thi ... 0like..mp3
The second is immediately superior due to its inclusion of a cowbell. That and the fact it was made entirely with Native Instruments VSTi's and a 3x osc.

Nice, now I have an excuse to post this: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?5b7yddtc6rt8qnu
It works as a loop, like almost every track in the game. Made it after seeing that Emi CG in the trailer and listening to Chariots of Fire.

Now this I like! Actually sounds like something I'd come across while playing.

Not sure if it's just me, but the lead seems to completely overpower the rest of the mix - maybe lower the volume but increase the reverb? I'd probably ditch the synth outright and try something closer to a marimba, but then I'm crazy.

The drums in particular don't really come through (they could do with some more variation as well). The bass in the second half sounds like it's being pushed too far as well.

I think I see what you're trying to do, it just sounds like it needs some love. :)

Just another little loop, this time based on the new CG with Rin in the trailer.
