I used to work retail and I think this would have been helpful for the times I did serve customers with disabilities.

Just read through it. It's very interesting to read through that and note some of the faux pas and stumbles Hisao made when trying to communicate with the girls. Especially with Shizune and Lilly.

Yeah, imagine how many more of those he's going to have in the full version. It's too bad they don't have any tips for cripple sex etiquette, but I'd imagine some of the same principles apply -- like he should specifically warn Lilly which hole he's going to put it in rather than yelling "Look out!"

Isn't not knowing half the fun though? :<

That's a pretty good guide, indeed.

I actually enjoyed reading that guide, it reminded me how Hisao didn't know which one he should look at when he wanted to speak with Shizune ^^
Oh, and that time when Hisao said to Lilly "Nice to see you" or something like that ^^ The Faux-Pas was exactly described in the guide.

Hidden Disabilities

Not all disabidisabidisabilitiesities are apparent.

Anyhow... Just read all of it. Will have to keep all of this in mind, as I now realize how many times I've done things wrong.

Weary interesting read. So sum up my felling about it.

I'm guilty of a couple things on there, as well.

I thought it was very tasteful and well thought out. Here are some notes I made as I was reading it:

"Person with a disability" is a bit of a mouthful, especially if you're speaking a lot at one time on the subject. (Then again, as a disabled person myself, I can probably get away with this.)

Getting a deaf person's attention: One movie I have, the deaf people would stomp on the ground to get the attention of others, hearing or otherwise. However, the movie is Japanese, so maybe this is a cultural difference.

Re: seizures. Some people still think it is a good idea to stick something in the person's mouth. Among other things, this is a great choking hazard.

It's also a great way to lose a finger or two...

I have always found it best to treat everyone equally regardless of what they bring, or don't bring, to the table. With limits of course, as it would do little good to use hand motions when speaking to a blind person. Those whom I have dealt with in such a way seemed to have appreciated it. Many people seem to coddle others too much, particularly if they pity them.It is useful to remember that treating others equally means punishing bad behavior as well.
