I only found out a few days ago.

Two Dimensions Mania 二次元狂热
December 2008 Issue

Title: Disability is moe? A doujin game in which all of the female protagonists are disabled
Recently a foreign doujin group released a trailer for a shocking thing: かたわ少女. Calling it shocking, because in this English doujin game all of the female protagonists are disabled: has a deaf, has (a girl) who's face and body was scared by fire, has a blind, has (a girl) who's amputated below her knees, has (a girl) who had severe birth defect and without arm …… We heard this game is based on a Japanese doujin, and currently it's 15% done. This game's official website is http://katawa-shoujo.com , if you are interested, please go to there and take a look. Remember, this is not a physical transformation type (of game).

edit:
To be clear, "physical transformation" can refer to those type of games/2d porn where a girl grow a penis or some sort of transformation on the body, it was meant to let people know this game is NOT a goru kind game.

Cool beans. Seems strange that they spelled out Katawa in kana, is that common when writing Japanese words in Chinese?

I remember hearing somewhere that act 1 is about 15% of the full game, so that's probably where they got that number from. Let's not forget that this is from 2008 also.

Also, old Lilly >_<

Well, they still had a more accurate synopsis than most English language articles on KS have had.

"physical transformation type (of game)"?

What does that even mean?

Even if it is from 2008, this shows for a fact how popular this VN is becoming. Especially looking as how they got recently invited to hold a KS panel at Manifest.
I'm sure there will be more of these once the full release comes about.

Don't think I've ever seen an older version of Lilly.

By god, but those eyes are freaky.

I hope to see KS eventually reach the popularity of some of the most well-known freeware games, like Cave Story and La-Mulana.

I doubt KS will get its own Wiiware remake like those games though. Nintendo would probably crap their pants at the idea of a cripple porn game on the Wii.

It's a stretch, but I'd say that they're referring to the "gender bender"-principle, like X-change.

Heh, Lilly's overhaul into her current form was recently late in the development of Act 1. If you check out the older blog posts, you can still see her old version in more detail. The general consensus is that her current version is much, much more fitting of her.
