Can the staff get anything out of this?

Making a VN is not an easy matter. There is much organization and writing to do.

That said the job the devs have done is fantastic. However when this is all said and done can KS help them out? Could they explain that they were part of KS and use the product to impress say an employer? Certainly the skills they used to pull this together are the same skills that can get you far later on it life.

So I ask how will this affect you later on?

It would certainly be nice to be able to put on a resume, but at the same time there are probably a lot of employers for whom it might make an... odd... first impression.

Or think "Wtf?! You made a cripple porn game?! *rageface* GTFO!!!" :P most probably actually. Unless they're awesome, I doubt it would be a good idea to even mention any relation to it ever.

well you certainly can't put katawa shoujo on a resume, but you can include something about how you were able collaborate with people on a global scale to develop a project with little experience and have it turn out very well. being able to collaborate and work in a team is a major plus.

There is no way this can be put on a resume in any form. A pity, as it's been more of an eye opener than many of the jobs I've had.

At the very least I'll have an aversion to highschool romance stories for the rest of my life.

You can put it on a resume, you just have to be very vague and roundabout in your descriptions.

Something like: "Coordinated and constructed program dedicated to equality of handicapped and disabled persons in aspects of the digital medium."

In this case, the "aspects of the digital medium" happen to be porn, but nobody has to know that.

Alternatively, you can say it is a "Life simulator based around the experiences of a young man struggling with a life-threatening disability."

It's not a good idea to put anything on a resume you wouldn't want to be followed up. Going into more depth about specific things is pretty normal practice from my experience as well, and bullshitting or deflecting is the last thing I'd be wanting to try.

It's just a fact of life that not everything relevant to a job can be put out there for potential employers to see.

Apart from souring me on the idea of romance as a genre (and making me write pornography) there hasn't been a lot of skills added. I suppose I've learned to hate firewalls more than ever before, and certainly I think the whole team has probably learned patience (as well as creative ways to insult one another).

But like Suriko said, there's no way you'd put some vague statement on your resume and hope that nobody asks any questions about it. I certainly don't intend to admit to working on this game to a potential employer, if only because that seems like about the dumbest goddamned thing you could do. Not because the project's not worthwhile, and not because it's straight hardcore fucking, but because that is exactly what any potential employer would think it was.

When I apply for a position at KEY, you bet I'll mention my KS experience in my curriculum.

Absolutely nothing that I've done in KS would be beneficial to any job that I would go for.
Even the things that come close have been covered off by my current job.

Would I consider a career change to a professional writer? Probably not. If I were going to though I would probably include excerpts of KS to show that I know how to use Word.

I suppose this would more apply to the artists, who may want to include some of the works in their portfolios. I wouldn't count on them replying here though; walls of text aren't their strong point.

kamifish used some of the cgs on her uni portfolio, apparently the teachers liked them.

It's really a shame you couldn't use something as (potentially?) groundbreaking as Katawa Shoujo on a resume. I mean, I understand why any dev would choose not to, but... actors and writers of mainstream movies with explicit sex scenes aren't blasted for it if the movie was genuinely good. Especially when considering the game has a chance to become a huge cult hit, not being able to formally take credit kinda sucks.

Ah well, there's the satisfaction of a job well done, and a huge international fanbase. Sure more than I can say of any projects I've ever worked on.

Something else to remember is that the game itself (in a complete form) isn't even out yet. Who knows what might happen if it actually ends up becoming poplar? Name aside, I think it has a very real chance of becoming relatively big in Japan if nowhere else - god knows there are far, far more fucked up franchises that have. What if 4LS were to evolve into a legitimately profitable studio? Assuming, of course, that any of the devs would even still want anything to do with VNs or whatever by the time that happens.

That would be fun.
