A girl is wandering through the moonlit city.
Her shadow uneasily flits around as she keeps walking on with her uneven steps.
'What should I do? What should I do?'
Her whispering fills the alley with hollow echoes.
"I'm sorry -- I'm so sorry ---"
Her hand is still stinging from hitting her best friend.
And this pain resonates through her body, even if half of it should be deadend by
those multiple burns and scars.
Yes, the pain had never left her, but happiness had kept it at bay... until now.
She collapses against one of the walls surrounding the alley enclosing her.
Tears are welling up her intact eye.
'How can I ever face anyone, no, how can I ever face Lily again?'
'What about school?'
'What about everyone else?'
'Will Hisao be alright?'
Her questions are only answered by silence...
"Ikezawa Hanako."
...which is broken by a voice heavier than the silence she bore before.
The girl addressed this way slowly turns around.
A man is standing at the entrance of the alley.
"Ikezawa Hanako", he repeats and steps forward.
"Do you want to be healed?"
He stops in front of her.
As she trembles before that towering figure, she nods ever so slightly.
"Very well. Your wish shall be granted --"
Just as the man is about to touch the girls asks a seemingly obvious question:
"Who -- are you?"

The town is silent.
And she knows she should not be at this time.
Yet, there is something she has to do, someone she has to find.
Her heavy breathing shows just how much she overexerted herself this night.
"Hanako? Where are you?"
The pavement beneath her feet changes from smooth asphalt to rectangular
blocks of cobblestone.
Tick, tack. Tick, tack. Tick, tick, tick.
The staccato of her cane regularily getting stuck between the crevices is the only
other sound that is heard.
Only relying on her remaining senses is getting harder with each passing minute.
As she is standing still, catching her breath, she carefully considers her remaining
options:
To give up and return to school or to continue her hopeless search.
NO. She could not give up. She must not give up.
So she bravely takes up her cane and continues her search.
Tick, tack. Tick, tack. Tick, tick, tick.
Tap...tap..tap....
The girl freezes.
Tap...tap..tap....
Resounding steps.
But she feels no presence.
Just stillness.
Tap..tap..tap.
"Who goes there?"
Tap...tap..tap....
Tick, tack. Tick, tick, tick, tick.
She quickens her pace.
But --
Tap...tap..tap....
The footsteps keep getting closer.
She knows she cannot get away from this.
Summoning her courage she turns around, and...
"Satou Lily."
A uninflected voice.
Cold and removed.
Almost... inhuman.
"Yes?"
The footsteps grow closer.
But still she feels no presence.
"There is an emptiness within you, which is reflected within your gaze.",
the voice pauses.
"Do you want to be free?"

The man turns around, his grey coat rustling at his departure.
"What are you?"
He stops.
"Magus... Araya Souren."
And then he vanishes into the darkness.

The spiral of paradox would be finally begin to spin and encompass this
area carefully isolated from the rest of the world.
And he had planted his little cogs and wheels in this grande scheme.
"Everything begins now..."

The first thing to enter his consciousness is the familiar sound coming from
various diagnostic machines connected to his body.
Constant periodic sounds ensuring his survival,
like signals endlessly repeating the message:
"I'm still alive."
He heaves a sigh but still keeps his eyes closed.
Heartbeat after heartbeat,
breath after breath he slowly returns from his sojourn in darkness.
When he opens his eyes he is immediatly assaulted by rays of sunlight
leaving patches of green in his line of vision.
So bright.
"Yo! You're finally awake!"
!!
And then he wishes to just sink back into oblivion.
"KENJI! GET OFF, I SAY."
Hngh. That was a bit too much of a strain.
"Woah, okay, I get it. Calm down."
Kenji climbs down the bed and shoots Hisao a worried look through his spectacles.
"Hold on, I get the nurse..."
Slamming the door behind him, he dashes away.
*Hah*, *hah*, *hah*.... Calm down.
Ba-bump.
Get a grip.
Ba-bump.
*Haaah*
That was close.
Constantly living on the edge had sharpened Hisao's senses.
And he knows he had just avoided another attack.
He opens his eyes ag--
"?!"
Something is wrong. Very wrong.
The boy on the infirmary bed rubs his eyes.
Lines. Countless lines all over the place.
Throbbing, converging.... eating away his sanity.
"GAAAH!!"
He knows he must not see this.
Ba-bump.
Ba-bump.
Ba-bump.
No, not now!
Ba-bump.
Ba-bump.
*Hah*, *hah*, *hah*.
"What the hell is this?"
