I'm fine with out having a 'progress report' on how far the game is from being done. In fact i hate those anyway. I'll go to a sight for a game that says "were almost done...98%." Or Some BS like that. Only to see 100+ posts in 'comments section' saying. "You've been saying that for over a month now!!"

Anyway my point is that i'd rather not know when the game is released. (Just to know that it will be eventually.) Rather then having a release date that keeps getting pushed back for one reason or another, or to have a DNF pulled on me.

Basically i think as long as you guys show that your still interested in / working on it. Via blog posts or posts here on the forum relating the game. It will quiet down all the '"ARE THE DEVS STILL WORKING ON THIS?!" posts. As for the "WHENS IT COMING OUT?" ones their really is no way to get rid of those. :P

-then again that's just my opinion.

While I do think that progress reports and DDs via the blog would help, you must keep in mind that this is a free game, and that most of the developers probably have work, training or college to do as well as work on the game. I, personally, am willing to wait until it is released.

They're usually ungrateful little shits who have produced nothing-of-value™.

/Edit/If it's ambiguous, I'm refering to those asking for progress reports

I have worked on free games (distributed over the internet) myself and this is a very, very familiar kind of post to me. Every once in a while, a visitor drops by, realizes his favorite game is STILL not finished and decides it's time to do what needs to be done.

What's interesting is that nag posts like these ALWAYS follow a familiar structure as if they were written by a single person. Here's a couple of them, just because I'm in an analyzing mood:
Please register here. We need your commentary.

This. The blog is the heartbeat of a project like this. I trust that you are working hard at making this game and it will be awesome. Yes waiting sucks but hey I have things to keep me occupied.... like Wow.

Anyways the point is that blog posts with updates or even just the dev witty opinion about Life the Universe and everything is a good thing as it keeps us fresh. No you don't need to give us a gas gage telling us how close we are to completion nor do we need some massive update but just a little here and there is enough for me. I'm happy waiting because I know that you guys are going to do a bang up job on this just like the demo. I know that everyday I wait the more awesome the game gets. There is a saying. "A delayed game is bad for a few months. But a bad game is bad forever."

For the demo, our internal progress bar didn't move an inch for about 6 months, then in the month leading up to the release it went beserk, spinning in both directions on an hourly basis.

Shit is getting done. Second drafts are in writing or have been written.

You will know when it is getting close to a release. I'm going to go out of my way to make sure of that. Until then we'll occasionally make updates on the blog, but at this stage there are no "big" milestones on the horizon. We're not going to inform you every time a new CG is drawn, or a scene directed. The next major milestone is script testing, but that won't be announced publically. The reason I made people write the E/N blog posts was to keep people interested and remind them that we are alive. There's not much a new DD could contribute to your lives, nor do any of us really feel like writing one.

The other devs have beaten me to most of the other arguments so I'm not going to bother venting here (though I do kinda feel like it). I have other things to do today.

Consider it arrhythmic.

hehe, that's what I'm doing too :)

As much as I want to play the full game, I don't mind waiting for it so much.
In fact, I think taking the time to do it properly is a good sign. At least they're not rushing the development in order to release it as soon as possible, then having to spend ages patching up bugs afterwards. (To the people who work that way - I hear Microsoft's hiring!)

If the demo is anything to go by, it'll be worth the wait :D

truth. and with updates and a progress bar I would assume you would just mean the progress of all the devs but say a dev finished first with X's path but the bar was only at 40% the large majority of the populace wouldn't be able to comprehend why a one path was down but the game wasnt out yet

Don't want to bloody the poor deutschophile's body any more, but to address a complaint of his... interest in KS isn't going to die before the release because the community finds new and fresh ways to revitalize excitement in the subject matter.

Be it Pimmy, VCR, and Konflikti's constant deluge of fanart (honorable mention to everyone else, but you don't compare), Snicket and Duane's libraries of photoshops, the 3-4 weekly BBS controlled fanbased stories on the message boards of Storyteller and lesser-known writers, the occasional fuckwin of an awesome fanfiction, Juno's music covers, and the many threads that are made in every sub-forum since the demo released. It's sometimes hard to keep up.

There's participation and excitement aplenty, and there's evidence everywhere to back that up. Hell, site membership. That's another. There's always new faces pouring in too; from people with disabilities to people in the medical field offering input (Minus all the freaking assburgers discussions that locked threads).

So in short. No. Excitement isn't dying. It's growing, and OP is venting his desire for instant gratification, and will probably otherwise be a likable cathartic chap tomorrow morning.

I would like to close by saying thank you to all the devs for taking your hobby seriously. So... thanks.

That, and 2D cripple porn is surprisingly hard to find. Don't have much of a choice but to wait for KS.

An idea which may avoid retards who basically keep coming to the site, asking about how much progress you're making;

Why not have a disclaimer somewhere saying "WE ARE STILL WORKING HARD ON KATAWA SHOUJO. UNTILL YOU READ OTHERWISE ON HERE, THE GAME IS STILL IN DEVELOPMENT. STOP ASKING US FOR STATUS UPDATES."

Just a thought, but it could help cut down on unnecessary questioning of the devs and improve the quality of the forums somewhat.

It wouldn't.

The whiny ones would still pester the devs. You see, they've stated pretty much what you said in ALL CAPS quite a number of times, yet, as we can see, it makes no difference. None whatsoever.

Splendid idea, we could like, put it as the first item on the FAQ and make the FAQ the topmost link in the forums list... oh wait.

ya know i suppose i dont mind tooo much cause i totally understand the devs point of veiw but im also very anxious about the game so i suppose at most i might try and ask once or twice but not more then that cause hey as people said its free and you guys aren't getting paid to do this so lets be glad your doing this at all right? but at the same time i wonder if its realy that hard to estimate how far but i suppose if it was easy to tell you probably would have done it already so i wont bug... wont try to bug... to much.. hehe anyway im saying i can see were the devs are coming from yet at the same to i want to hear SOMETHING if its convient for the devs

Why would you even bother to ask even once? They are not going to tell you. They can't tell you. That's the point. I'm content with knowing that they are working on the game, that's all. Judging from act one, we can see that they can do a damned good job of the final release, which is all that ultimately matters. They've also implied that it will be 'months -> years' to completion quite a number of times, which is estimate enough for me.

Heck, and if they did somehow implement a progress bar/scheme, it would just mean more work for them which would slow down the making of the game slightly.
