I honestly don't know how you managed that. Hisao has to be actively rude or stupid to someone to end up with Kenji.

I got it on my first playthrough. I was going for Shizune, but also wanted to be friends with Emi, so after Hisao's mild heart attack Misha was prodding for where I was earlier. I actually wanted Shizune/Misha to know about Hisao's condition (which apparently ISN'T possible) so I choose to tell her I was "Having fun fun fun in the nurse's office." He said it with 20x more sarcasm than I intended. With Shizune's path destroyed, I went to lunch with Emi, but by week's end I had not gotten close enough to any girl to hang around them on festival day... so I hung with Kenji.

I got Kenji's end on the first play.

Was actually going for Hanako's end first, but I slipped up. (Spoilers for anyone who hasn't tripped over this yet)
On the bit where Hisao is coming back to Yamaku with Lilly and Rin in tow, and Lilly asks him if he's ok. By this point in the game, on my first foray into this little world, I had Hisao down as the sort of guy who always acts like "Nah, it's cool. I'm fine" around others even if there really is something wrong. So I thought he'd be more likely to say "I'm fine", then he sort of blew up at them and did a runner, I was like "oops!".
Next thing I know, I end up as street pizza... *sigh* Restart!

I tried to be a bit social with everybody but I ended up falling from the roof.

I got Emi's path by being nice to everyone. The first few choices seem innocuous, but they really affect what happens.

Nope I don't suck at VNs liek you do.

I didn't get the route I wanted though, I wanted Shizune's, I got Rin's which was still awesome.

Next time through I got Shizune's.

If this is true, common sense is dead wrong in this case.
Being nice to everyone could get you on any path (Emi's being most likely.) it just depends on when you are nice to whom.
It's also the best way to avoid the Kenji end, though certain choices may trip you up due to their wording.

Emi on the first try. Second run I thought "I wonder what happens if you're a huge dick to everyone?" and was rewarded with the Manly Picnic.

I didn't, since, you know, in real life, if you were situated in a school for disabled people, it's very useful to just say out your disability, otherwise everyone will just keep asking you. Postponing the news to your friends is like adding gunpowder to a cannon.
