There are so many ways to tell you that you are wrong....
Well, it IS a bit of an apples and oranges comparison. Of course production values will be better when they are in the programmers native language. In my brief search of youtube I could not find any version of a vocaloid Scarborough Fair by anything other than apparently Japanese programmers. Songs done in a language other than the programmer’s native tongue will most likely suffer without a good-sized investment of input from someone very intimate with that language. (Since it is a traditional Scottish song I suppose the 'native language' for it would be Gaelic. Would that be the language of choice to have the vocaloid performed in?)
Now, if Scarborough Fair was to be done by a native english speaker and it came out with performance values like the ones I found on youtube I would not be gentle in my opinions.

I must say, the first one was really epic. The song was okay, but the graphics and animation were phenomenal.
I never bothered to pay much attention to the vocaloids, because I know that the pool is freaking MASSIVE. Old favorites, though, are the History of Evil songs by the Kagamine twins, World is Mine (delicious tsundere), and Melt (makes me go DAAWW). Toeto is very close to getting there, too.
Also, RIP=RELEASE is that yandere Luka song, right?

Interestingly enough, given two songs; executed equally well; I will most of the time prefer a Luka vocaloid over a Miku. I enjoy the slightly warmer tones generated by Luka over the piercingly bright tones from Miku. It is totally a matter of personal preference , of course.
And I have to say I am disappointed; somehow we are still on topic. I hope we can fix this??

These overflowing tears are always the same,
Yet my heart can't get used to them
But if I were to tear out your throat
Then you would belong only to me.
When I first listened to the song I couldn't make out the third line, so for a time I thought it was a generic "I miss you so much" song.
And yes, Luka (and now Gumi) do beat Miku in terms of technical brilliance... but... It's Miku...
Also I don't think I added Meltdown to that list but that is much fun.

What manner of creature is that? Octo-Misha head?

The head of the Vocaloid, Megurine Luka. Drawn disembodied with octopus tentacles for hair.

Better known as "Takoluka".
It's the equivalent of Hachune Miku; the Chibi version of Miku with a leek:
