Eh, I don't like the way I worded that. And thinking back, I am honestly not sure how the second part of that sentence was supposed to be relevant to my point.

At any rate, Misha just felt like the convenient choice for Hisao's visitor, since it lets her inform him (and us) of the other five girls' reactions... which is well, kind of the point I guess. Not sure where the rest of my train of thought was going.

I feel like those thoughts will be lost forever...

I've always wanted to know more about the faculty at Yamaku. The two parts of Starbursts always feel as if they should somehow be compatible with what Suriko did for Aura here. Perhaps that was the intention?

From the opening scene in the 'Engrish' class, it had me laughing and hooked. The sense of knowing Yamaku better, in ways that KS never allowed, increased through the first part. In the second part, where the perspective is reversed, I met Mutou as a likeable character in more than his usual one-dimensional (perhaps two-dimensional in rare places like Emi's route) self. It made me want to write Mutou/Miyagi stories, perhaps stories about the rest of Yamaku besides the original main characters.

The writing is just sweet enough, smooth without being cloying or overdone. Not much to complain about; perhaps the characters are a bit more clueless than they normally would be, but that's excusable. And a lot more to like! It was one of the pieces that pushed me into doing a Mutou arc, frankly.

EDIT: And now, it's pushed me into doing a sort of side-story in the Mutou arc, a lot of which has to do with Miyagi.

I don't know why, but I just didn't pick up all that much chemistry between Miyagi and Mutou. Even in her own thoughts, her feelings for him strike me as more of an infatuation than anything. What did she find to be Mutou's desirable qualities? Asides from his brain, I mean; science talk apparently really turns her on. But it seems kinda sudden, superficial even. Maybe I'm just being a little harsh - I mean, I still found the story enjoyable. But I'm a little sad to say that I found myself more interested in what was up with Hisao, even though he was only in the background...

Also, Mutou should totally narrate Cosmos.

Alright, so this is a special announcement/session for the book club, as you may have heard through my and Comrade's insane mutterings, the Library's First anniversarie is Tomorrow, (Mostly likely today if you're reading this) and I have gather the most prestigious of writers, Brythain, forgetmenot, and Keiichi, and even lowly I wrote a thing) to make stories for the event, which shall be compiled somehow and we are gonna read them all and discuss them in some matter. As you can tell this has been well thought out. I'll post again when all is ready but that is what I've been doing recently, I have not forgot the club.

One issue I have with Starbursts is that Mutou seems more than just socially awkward (I mean, I'm at least that socially awkward, I can sympathize with that), but also rather... stupid, really.

I mean, not knowing what a roofie is? And not even googling it before making an idiot of himself?

I guess what I'm saying is that Starbursts contributes to my headcanon of that relationship being a possibility, but not quite in that way.

Hmmm...was expecting to see something about those new stories today, but today is officially over where I am in 3...2...1...

Anyway, Starbursts. It was a nice piece of fluff. As mentioned by others, Mutou seemed a bit un-Mutou-like at times, and there were some pieces I didn't care for (the smoking scene, for instance, almost felt like paid product placement), and I would have liked to know more about the astronomy club members -- heck, the astronomy club, period, since I am a big-time astronomy buff (another idea to file away in my "might write once my current story is complete" bin). I enjoyed it a good deal on my first read-through, but it didn't really hold up to a re-read. I'll go with "not bad" and leave it at that.
