It's not just because it's an eroge. Sex is a serious bonding act, and unless you're a conservative writer writing for a conservative audience there's no reason to describe the act in detail to bring the reader even closer to the characters and bring out even more character development. Straight-up porn isn't tasteful because it's planned, unrealistic, and exists simply for the fulfillment of sexual desires -- there's no bonding with or personality to the actors/characters. But if done properly, a detailed yet tasteful description of the act of sex is possible, and why not take on that challenge?

...That's not quite what I meant. You're possibly overthinking my response. I'm saying "there will be nudity because it's an eroge, if that bothers you toggle it off", not "it's an eroge so the sex scenes can't be meaningful"

I just got finished playing all the routes in Yume Miru Kusuri and it reminded me of one important thing that relates to the topic.
YES

There's plenty of kissing if you think jamming your tongue down her throat is kissing.

Insightfull and detailed conversations here, thumbs up but we're missing the main point.
As the thread title says, Are the hentai scenes important?... concerning KS,that is.
Considering all that was said so far, Yes or No? (and maybe a reason?)
I say:
Yes - character development 75%, fap and curiosity 25% lol

no I mean like, proper kissing and such. Then again, I seem to be the only person in the world who prefers doujins that don't involve rape, incest, lolicon, or guro, so maybe I have a skewed set of examples.

Important... Well, to portray and emphasize the love between two people, yes. To advance the plot, maybe. To be there for the sole purpose of reaching out to a certain part of the public? No.

Nah, the people who like that kind of thing generally always blab about it, creating the illusion.

I mean more based on the content available. From what I've seen, supply and demand would suggest that those are what people like...

You should probably try to find an new content provider, then.

This is based on multiple providers of such things.

Hm... Personally I'd have to say that with or without h-scenes KS is wondrous, I'd play it without aseasily as with.
Still, for the sake of argument, I don't see any reason why h-scenes should be excluded, certainly not if the attention to detail/etc. that was shown in act 1 is perused for them.

My Lovely Ghost Kana is one of the best examples I can think of how sex can strengthen a story. I'm at a loss to describe why it's so important (other than the fact that there wouldn't be a whole lot of story without the sex), but there is a very emotionally powerful scene at the end of vol. 1 that had nothing to do with sex in and of itself, but I don't think it would have nearly as much impact if they weren't sexually intimate. You can get what's translated of the manga at
http://www.mangaworld.org/projects/kana.html
Another example of warm-fuzzy manga sex is Koibana Onsen. It's about a honeymoon resort and the people who staff it. You can find that one on mangafox.

Before this thread dies I'll make a slightly off-topic comment, as it doesn't warrant it's own thread. As far as the sex scenes go, I'll guess it's realized that the BGM is very important. No one has mentioned it yet (as far as I've seen) that the music can make or break any scene. It seems to me that the music and composers are underestimated and overlooked at least outside the dev team.
tl;dr MAKE THE SEX SOUND PRETTY!
