Different people react differently.

As a kid, you do think that sex is gross anyway, so your nice parents obviously never did it. Then as you age and find out, you see naked people in a magazine/online, and then look at your increasingly decrepit, saggy parents and it gets even grosser.
Maybe you do, but not all kids are taught or brought up that way. Some kids are perfectly comfortable with motherhood, and babies, and breastfeeding, and childbirth, and inter-parental sexuality.
Alternatively, some children are grossed out by simple things like hugs.

When I walk into a museum and see one of those positively lewd topless greek statues, I get so offended that I immediately have to go to the public lavatory and rinse out my entire body with bleach, while cursing the fact that I have reproductive organs.
Of course I turn off adult content.

This, more or less.
Everyone has varying degrees of comfort and sensitivity with intimacy and sexuality and how it is portrayed. My dislike of exploiting sexuality for the sake of advertising doesn't extend to nude greek busts, Someone else might actually be bothered by seeing a pair of tits without any arms, and all I can do without being a dick is raise an eyebrow and direct them elsewhere.
We shouldn't punish people for having different ideas of sexuality, and alternately, we shouldn't reward people for being oversensitive about it.

I heard the sex scenes kinda takes away the emotion and it feels unnatural to the story, making them feel unneecessary. But on the other hand I read that it is part of the story and that you should just read it because the devlopers put in it for a reason. So what does everyone think i should do?
BTW no spoilers because i am not done with my first playthrough yet. (It's Hanako if anyone is wondering)
This is from Hanako's writer's blog(
https://cplcrud.wordpress.com/2012/05/21/regrets/):
I know almost all of the devs struggled with the sex scenes in one way or another, and they don’t really add that much to the story.
Especially since Hanako's route has only 1 sex scene.
You don't miss much for skipping sex scenes, but you don't gain much either for going through them.

Most of the adult content have plot significance (Well, at least a bit of character insight), ala porn with plot.

It's surprisingly hard for me to determine whether or not the sex scenes are superfluous. On one hand, it seems that they could be plausible, given the amount of time that Hisao is in a relationship with each girl. But on the other hand, that doesn't always happen in real relationships.

I personally don't have any interest in seeing adult scenes so I have it turned off. As to whether it should be turned off or not, that's all up to you.

Well, if you're not allowed to view adult content, why would you check yes during the install?
As for the question at hand, I think you can safely turn them off without missing much. However, some of them have a greater impact on the story due to the circumstances. In most cases, it's like watching an R-rated movie on basic cable - you don't really miss that much.

I can taste the sarcasm from here. It's magnificent.
I'll be sure to turn on my deadpan-detector every time I see that adorable spider's eyes in your avatar.

See, I wanted to go with sarcasm; it's my fall-back state of mind. Unfortunately, sarcasm is so often misinterpreted as trolling on forums - it's how I got perma-banned from the WoW boards.
A little advice; don't try sarcastic quips on the WoW boards - the GMs seem to have Asperger's.
