I have four VNs lined up, but I'm not sure which to play first. Any input would be appreciated.

Re: Recommend a VN
I have heard Shuffle! is meant to be pretty awful except as a gateway VN. Hoshizora no Memoria is really fun if you like slice of life and comedy, romance and drama with a happy story. Yume Miru Kusuri is similar to Katawa Shoujo except with a lot of porn, expect a lot of melodrama. I've heard Crescendo is like YMK, perhaps with less porn though.Mysterious Stranger wrote:I have four VNs lined up, but I'm not sure which to play first. Any input would be appreciated.

Personally I'd say that you should go with YMK next because it is better to play it while you are still new to the VN genre. It's not the greatest VN out there, not by a long shot, but it is still pretty enjoyable. Hoshizora no Memoria is better in my opinion however, although don't expect any bad ends.

Finished Narcissu but lets say Windows 7 and Narcissu are mortal enemies.
Crashed every single time a chapter was finished and occasionally, when you load a new scene. I couldn't load saves unless I run administrator mode of the game before the save and after it. Trying to backwards compatibility with windows xp resulted in windows 7 not finding the game which is hilarious. All in all, it crashed about 25-30 times making the read through 2-3x longer.
Back to the story, you see the ending coming from the beginning but it still hits you.
Anyone else had as many troubles as I did with this?
Note: Thank god it was short or I would had quit a long time ago

Hoshimemo. It's lighthearted for most of the part, but it has a very enjoyable story if you don't mind some slice of life. At least from the bottom three, Hoshimemo takes the cake. Compared to YMK, I dunno.Mysterious Stranger wrote:I have four VNs lined up, but I'm not sure which to play first. Any input would be appreciated.

I had this problem during, it was a real pain. Downloading Narcissu 2 will fix this error, as it comes bundledwith a non-crash version of the original VN.stanman237 wrote:Finished Narcissu but lets say Windows 7 and Narcissu are mortal enemies.

Re: Recommend a VN
I've heard really good things about an old VN called "Jesus" and "Jesus 2"
Quick description:
In the year 2061 a group of researchers from the space station JESUS are sent on a special mission to investigate Halley's Comet, but it all goes awry when one of the space ships loses communication. Hayao Musou is given the task to find out what happened.
Then there's also;
Dead of the Brain - Shiryou no Sakebi and Dead of the Brain 2. (zombie stuff)
Just keep in mind that all these VNs are really old.

Hmm... Lets see... Visual Novels...
Wanko to Kurasou (A little difficult to obtain legally since the company seems to no longer exist)
http://www.insani.org (They translate a bunch of VNs mostly freeware)
Key is well known for making good visual novels like Kanon, Air, Clannad, Little Busters, and Rewrite. They can be bought at http://www.jlist.com or http://www.jbox.com (jlist contains 18+ stuff) and translation patches can be found on the internet.
And of course you can go to http://www.renai.us/ and search around for hidden jewels among the rubble.

One of my hobbies is coloring anime style linearts. My avatar is the first lineart I've colored.

Thanks for the input, I just started YMK, and it's pretty interesting... although I will say that I got an H-scene just three and a half hours into it, that's pretty weird. Still, I'll see where it goes. Hoshimemo is up next, followed by Crescendo. I might just drop Shuffle!, if it reputedly isn't that great.Nobody in Particular wrote:I have heard Shuffle! is meant to be pretty awful except as a gateway VN. Many people class Yume Miru Kusuri a nukige, although that is somewhat debateable. There is a LOT of sex in YMK, especially in the Mizuki route, but if you can get past that it is a somewhat entertaining VN.Mysterious Stranger wrote:Thanks for the input, I just started YMK, and it's pretty interesting... although I will say that I got an H-scene just three and a half hours into it, that's pretty weird.

Well, that explains it. I was seriously flustered there for a sec, I told the protagonist to run away, and he still got seduced. This is the first time I'm hearing about how much sex there is... but it should be interesting. At the very least I have Hoshimemo to look forward to. To which I can look forward.Nobody in Particular wrote:Many people class Yume Miru Kusuri a nukige, although that is somewhat debateable. I'd have to say Sengoku Rance, the whole turnbased strategy/eroge concept behind it was executed beautifully. And Rance is a funny asshole, gotta give 'em that. And it's extra uber long too, depending on how fast you act in taking over countries.
I need VNs with yanderes now, any recommendations?

It's actually possible to have sex with the three main heroines in one playthrough and still manage to get a good end with one of them. The first few sex scenes are on the common route, so that's why it is possible.Mysterious Stranger wrote: Well, that explains it. It's subject to opinion, but I'd say that Hoshimemo is significantly better than YMK. Depends whether you like happy and upbeat VNs or not though.
The School Days translation was finished last week, and that one is quite famous for it's yandere scenes. Apparently the people who pre-ordered them are yet to recieve their copy (still being shipped) but it should be available through various methods by next week. Another VN which is close to being translated is Yandere, which is about yandere heroines. That one sounds as funny as fuck.BobBobberson wrote:I need VNs with yanderes now, any recommendations?
On a completely unrelated note I have decided to play some of the less recommended VNs after I finish Muv-Luv Alternative (which is way too fucking long) since I want to save the better VNs until later. Would anyone here recommend the following VNs?
Hinatabokko
Princess Waltz
Chaos;Head
Quartett!
Hanachirasu
Brass Restoration
Edelweiss
Deus Machina Demonbane

Re: Recommend a VN
Well, obviously I'm still new to all of this, but Princess Waltz was the second VN I played (after KS), and I thought it was pretty damn neat, in a shounen anime sort of way. Great final ending, though, not to mention a hilarious bad ending - in retrospect, anyway (no spoilers). Oh, and it's worth mentioning that the card-based battle system is actually worth a damn, i.e. kind of fun.Nobody in Particular wrote:On a completely unrelated note I have decided to play some of the less recommended VNs after I finish Muv-Luv Alternative (which is way too fucking long) since I want to save the better VNs until later. Re: Recommend a VN
Well guess I'll do that one then. Wasn't aware it had gameplay in either, so I guess that will be something to look forward too. Thanks. If I may ask one more question, how does it compare to Kira Kira and Katawa Shoujo? Is it better or worse in your opinion?Mysterious Stranger wrote: Well, obviously I'm still new to all of this, but Princess Waltz was the second VN I played (after KS), and I thought it was pretty damn neat, in a shounen anime sort of way. None of the ones I mentioned are discussed or recommended much (except for Chaos;Head for all the wrong reasons) so I didn't have much to go by for any of them.
