You may feel that way, but, in a community such as this, filled with amateurs, the most useful thing you can probably offer, other than additional works to critique, is insight into those presented by your peers.

If nothing else, the basic rules he talks about there should be useful to you.

I'd like to offer one of my own more frequently used writing resources; namely, Kurt Vonnegut's 8 Simple Rules for Writing Fiction.

I'd also like to point out that it's not only important to know the rules, but also to know the proper place and time to break them. Suspense is a good thing, sometimes. Good things can happen to good people in the correct circumstances. Et cetera, et cetera.
