So there ya go.
Well, just as it's your duty to create a fandom, it's our duty to make you wish you hadn't.

On topic, I think Hisao will confess to Hanako, and her response will be something similar to the original sketch. I think Rin would be likely to respond to a confession with a shrug and a "Yeah, sure." Shizune, Hisao's going to have to work for it. Lilly and Emi, I have no idea.

I could live with this.

Quoted and sigged for truth.

I can actually buy this. Probably not as part of the confession, but as a "I'm not afraid anymore" character development moment.

I like the idea of Emi being incredibly shy and awkward about taking their relationship to the next step, because it creates an adorable contrast with her usual enthusiasm.

It also creates an adorable contrast with her being a slut. 8)

Uhh, no. Seriously this time, no. For the record, I have a sense of duty to turn out a decent final product, if I have any. That is only coincidentally related to the building of a fandom around it. Other devs' mileage may vary.

And sometimes I wish you all didn't take that "duty to make you wish you hadn't" thing quite that much to heart either. :(

Some of the stuff just goes over the top, yeah. I can't imagine seeing my characters subjected to some of what I've seen on the Shimmie or even here on the forums.

You just have to have faith in the responsible fans, Silentcook. We believe in your vision, so believe in us in return. There will always be fandom trolls, but there are also a bunch of writers and artists on here who take the characters and setting seriously and treat them with the respect due someone else's creation. Just don't let the bastards get you down, as the saying goes.

Think of it this way: if your characters didn't have a positive impact on us, we'd have no interest in warping them beyond all recognition. Really, the fandom madness is a compliment.

Not dramatic enough, requires more crying/manly tears and more dying love interests.

I could see one method of getting a confession across to Shizune, even if he hadn't gotten the hang of sign language yet.

Picture, he's trying to confess, but gets nowhere because she's deaf (duh), he's still a beginner at signing, and Misha's gone somewhere (which is probably for the best, given the matter at hand). She gets frustrated, but suddenly, Hisao gives her a strange look. It's an admiring look, with a small smile. She raises an eyebrow, before he gently takes her hand, and places it on his chest for her to feel his heartbeat, all the while their eyes are locked. No words are spoken (again, deaf), but "I love you" might as well be written on his face.

...hell, I got heart problems and that's what I'd do if I fell in love with a deaf girl.

With Rin, I see a variation on what others have said; Hisao works up the guts to say it for a while, then while they're working on a project:

Hisao: "I...I love you."
Rin: "I know." *goes on like he didn't say anything out of the ordinary*

Hisao takes this as a rejection and while around Rin tries to take it in stride even though it hurts. However, a few days, maybe even a week or two later;

Hisao: "How do you mix this color?"
Rin: "I love you too."
Hisao: "Ah, okay, I was wond- wait, what?"

My thoughts on how I would've written it:

Rin: http://shimmie.katawa-shoujo.com/post/view/1424 This. Well, sans the stupid expression in the painting of course. Having her be surprised to be painting him since he's on her mind a lot would be a fantastic moment.

Hanako: I can think of two great options for her, actually.
1) Tearfully ranting about how she doesn't think anyone could ever love her, letting slip accidentally that she loves Hisao, after which he holds her or kisses her or whathaveyou.
2) Her showing character growth and nervously (and quietly) telling Hisao that she does.

Shizune: Hisao tries to sign it to her, but he's not good enough at it yet and she gets gradually more confused and aggrivated until he just grabs her hand and places it over his heart.

Lilly: This one seems like it would be the most calm and natural of them all. It would just slip out.

Emi: Perhaps Hisao would have another medical scare while training with Emi and as she's freaking out over being so stupid as to push him too hard, he calms her down in the Nurse's office by telling her how he feels.

Those are all kinda cheesy I know, but then again, most real life confessions are if you think about it.

Many aspects I could think of have already been addressed, so I will try to be short and concentrate on the 'How?'.

Regardless of who confesses, it would be a nice variation if an instant reply were to be avoided and the recipient of the other person's amorous interest would request some time before voicing a decision. Love is, after all, a very strong word with a lot of serious implications despite its inflationary use nowadays.

Although it may be a cliche in the repertoire of romantic comedy, I would think that if the girls come in pairs, there is going to be talk between them about our protagonist and I could imagine some subtle encouragement or hints from the person closest to the girl admiring Hisao in order to help her friend achieve happiness. Not to the extent where another character plays matchmaker (which would, for example, in the case of Lilly helping Hanako obtaining a boyfriend strike me as a form of patronizing - which is something Hanako does not need if she is to grow as a character) but where there is approval accompanied with the occasional gentle nudge.

Another thing I would really enjoy seeing is a semi-awkward, semi-hopeful admission to loving that certain someone after some relatively harmless intimacy has already occurred. Allow me to (badly - I know) illustrate:
"Uh, I mean, I think we kind of hugged there ... for a really long time, too ... and I mean ... uh ... *insert obligatory shy glance to the side and a slight, yet hopeful smile* ... Does that mean we are together now?"

For instance, I could imagine Shizune doing something similar by writing Kanji into Hisao's hands, to concentrate on performing the task she thinks is important at the moment and because she fears her movements to be too erratic for correctly communicating right now and last but not least, of course, to savor touching him.

Actually, from what I can gather, I think the expression in the painting actually fits perfectly with Hisao.

And I agree spot-on with the other four. Although I really hope his meds work well. If a simple request nearly killed him in the beginning of the game, Hanako flat out confessing to love him might make her the only girl without a "happy" ending.

That shouldn't happen again. Hisao had surgery, and is on meds to help prevent that sort of thing. Sure other stuff might be dangerous, but a confession shouldn't do all that much to him anymore.

Hisao / Hanako:
They get into some tense convo and Hanako starts crying, Hisao moves over and kisses her on her scarred side of cheek. Hanako is frozen in shock when Hisao says " you're beautiful in your own way... Every way..." as Hanako stutters "u-umm... H--h-h-Hisao? I-i- I love you" and they kiss passionately ;D

Hisao / Shizune:
As they are playing a super-competitive game of risk ending up in Hisao losing again with Shizune laughing menacingly cute, she signs to him by pointing at herself ( or at her eye ) and then making a heart with her hands and then pointing to Hisao. As he takes a moment to comprehend this she throws herself on him, which winds him and so on so forth...
(Misha is sleeping through all this due to being bored as the game took too long)

Hisao / Emi:
Running out of breath Hisao stops running and sits down on the track, as Emi finnishes her lap and goes to Hisao. While calling him names playfully her arm is grabbed by Hisao and is pulled down, she falls on him and they make love~

-sigh- i should do this shit for a living
