That should supply the “bear” necessities.
Anyway, I thought that the writing was campy, which is a good thing in this case. I like it when stories like these do not take themselves too seriously. I was glad that the writing was not in script format, as I have seen in many fan fictions. Pacing was consistent, and later on accentuated the “shock” factor.
Had a good setup with the characters and their backgrounds, but I felt that even though it emphasized what was at stake, it felt like too many characters being introduced at once. I was somewhat overwhelmed with the amount of new characters; had to re-read in order to keep track of whom was who. Then again, that is just my opinion.
As for the protagonists, they did not seem too out of character, though I would have thought that Hisao most certainly would have died being rag dolled in the manner described. There is enough external information coming in to make me satisfied with how both Akira and Hisao reacted to the situations in front of them, though. Definitely helped when the author put in subtle references to Kenji and Akira’s love of alcohol, just to remind us that it was not two random people taking on a werewolf.
The plot is not that memorable. The story makes meta-references to avoid standards, but it definitely follows the standards, which works anyway. Comic relief is not too blatant, and comes in handy. A couple plot points are definitely interesting (the Akira giving up scene), and the gravity of the situation is apparent.
I did lose my sense of immersion a couple times with snarky references to other media. My favourite being “Emperor on Earth, shoot the damn thing!” That got a chuckle out of me.
Overall, Hisao and Akira - Terror in the Night was not a bad read. The author took plenty of care in editing, and it was definitely interesting and new to see the characters deal with a werewolf.
EDIT: Just noticed the author posted. Thanks for the story, Hoitash.
EDIT #2: Oh, it's a part of a series. That would make more sense in regards to other characters. It works well enough by itself though.
