Ill draw the line at "With regards . . . ." and Xan's madness story as the opposite ends of the spectrum, anything more is to submit to utter entropy. Or ya know, we could be a normal bookclub, but who wants that?

EDIT: this is by 2nd 666th post, I wonder if now is the time to go into the satanic Kenji story . . . . nah.
*grin* I don't think we can be a normal book club, considering the subject material. But I draw the line at pieces designed only to horrify with badly written shlock. I prefer characterisation, and the pain-only pieces seldom have that much.
Post-Yamaku, what happens? After The Dream is a mosaic that follows everyone to the (sometimes) bitter end.

You know, there's a place in my heart for crack pairings. (Touhou fans have to work with what they're given.)

For all of the absurdity of, say, a Misha X Hanako story, you might find some interesting parallels, and it can put them in a new light. Maybe they bond over an unhealthy dependence on friends who don't treat them as equals. Maybe Misha manages to rope Hanako into more chess in the Student Council. Maybe Hanako catches Misha mid-depression in Shizune's route, and takes it upon herself to help someone through a familiar situation. ("E-Even if Sh-Shizune won't listen, I w-will. So... so you can c-confide in me." "~Aha, Hanako, my problems aren't that important..." "Y-yes they are!", etc.)

Who knows, anything can happen in crack pairings, and it's usually adorable. (Personally, I think Hanako X Yuuko is a gold mine of socially inept feels.)
And we're back.

The most crack pairing I ever tried myself at was Kenji X Shizune.
It worked surprisingly well... In fact, that was probably the part of the story that worked best^^°

What about incredibly well written shock?

I think, maybe that this is going TOO far, but fuck it, lets do it to the max!

With Apologies to Harlan Ellison Author: Doomish
Notes: You will never look at KS the same way again.

Let me stress first off, this is entirely optional, no one has to read this as it is incredibly disturbing, but if you do, well then the discussion shall be great, try not to get sucked into the spiraling void of insanity this will no doubt bring. Metting is on the 16tth and the link is up.

Well, let's see what we have.

...Two paragraphs later...

I'm.... I'm just gonna sit this one out. Although for the record, this is definitely based on I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. So I know how it goes. Yay literature.
And we're back.

I will sit this one out as well. I've...pretty much had my fill of Doomish's old stuff for one lifetime.
Rin is orthogonal to everything.
Stuff I've written: Developments, a continuation of Lilly's (bad? neutral?) ending - COMPLETE!

I'm also gonna sit this one out, for the same reason listed above.

I grew up on Harlan Ellison — lost my 'virginity' on Deathbird Stories when I was a pre-teen. So… this is not so bad. :D

Of course not.
I know it's not my best piece of writing by far, so I won't be too hurt if everyone pulls it apart ;-)

Doomish's stuff isn't for everyone, that's for certain. I doubt that I will have time to give it a thorough rereading, but I would be glad to discuss my recollection. It definitely left an impression.

If we want to give up, that's just fine, its has been a whole 2 hours after all, Ill go find something fluffy.
OR, alternatively if we want something less disturbing, and I stress the fact that its slightly lesser I'll go find Xan's madness story.

Doomish is a good writer, but he's got the habit of going out of his way for shock value at times.

My main problem with Doomish's works is that he sometimes drags them out ambitiously.

I don't know if I can really consider it shock value, since he generally puts a lot of effort into making it relevant to the narrative. That being said, suspension of disbelief is another issue.

Anyway, if everybody would rather talk about something fluffier and less disturbing, I would be down with that.
