Could I offer a suggestion?

Given that this is an archive for an ever changing library of fan fiction, and it will get its index updated intermittently, it might be worth the readers' time to add the last update day to the title line so it's visible without having to open it and check the index. This will be especially useful since the updates will be added to the saved posts near the front of the archive, rather than as newly added comments. That way people will know, at a glance, whether anything new has been added since their last visit without having to open the archive.

Quite simply:
The Yamaku Library - A fan fiction archive; Updated ##/##/####

Also, if it were to become a stickied post, you ought to consider removing 'A' from the title. Just call it "The Yamaku Library - Fan Fiction Archive", which makes it sound like the definitive archive, rather than one of many.

I'm not really sure a date in the thread title will be very helpful.
For fanfictions, if the date changes you know that a new chapter has been added and that you'll find it at the end of the thread.
For the archive you'll only know that something has been added somewhere and I don't think anybody will want to go through the entire archive to find what it is.
Can't really hurt to do it either, though.

I think it's more important now, while the archive is still being built, because older fics are still being added in batches. Once that's no longer the case, what you say above will be more relevant.

I'd still have to make an update post to tell people what actually was added, which is fine with me

It might be worth including a changelog to track each update, noting what was added/modified/removed. For instance,

Code: Select all

Update 20/10/13:
-Added XYZ by ABC
-Updated 123 by 456

Update 10/10/13:
-Added TUV by DEF
-Removed three fics

Update 25/9/13:
-Foo
-Bar

And so on. This would not need links, since it'll be on the same page as them. People could simply ctrl+f the new names/look for the full entries themselves.

It might be a good idea to this on the reserved post after the fics to not stop the people just there for fics.

A bad idea altogether, what if i only add one entry in an edit? Have an entire update note for that minor of a change? And why would anyone even care about that? Its not like people will want to read every single one of the fics here. In the end it will just become long list of useless information that will be more trouble then its worth.
What I'll do is whenever there's an update I'll just make an update post
added all of XXXYZ fics
And change the update date at the title.

This is ridiculously OCD of me, but in the first fic listed, there is no space after the 'none' for pairings
Also after shizune in "The haunting" listed with paranormal.
