Well,
obviously!
I'm glad someone else mentioned Sae/Mutou so I wouldn't have to...
But now for something completely different...Meiko/Jigoro.
There is some kind kind of internal logic to this. But I may not be able to explain it. XD

Let's get Emi and Hideaki to be friends somehow. (We know Shizune doesn't swing the right way for this horrible, horrible idea to work.)
Then... use the
Motherlover thing, although with a gender flip on one side.
Meiko x Hideaki, Emi x Jigoro.
You're welcome.
Guest Poster wrote:Is there anything you base that assumption on, other than the fact that Lilly's a Catholic? Not all Catholics disapprove of homosexuality, ya know?
Lilly certainly didn't seem uncomfortable talking about the confessions she received in middle school, so my assumption was she had no problems with it.
It seemed like she holds the "lesbianism is a phase" mentality, rather than actually being OK with it, though. Which could actually be quite damaging to Hanako if she were to get a girlfriend, and Lilly pulled that shit.
Guest Poster wrote:For Hanako, it'd be like trying to date her own mother, and that dynamic just ain't healthy at all.
By that same logic, dating Akira would be like dating her aunt. So dating her "surrogate mother" is unhealthy, but dating her "surrogate aunt" is the best thing that could happen to her?
Touché. Although, it's slightly different in this situation, because Hanako and Akira actually aren't related, so that squick factor wouldn't be in place. (Whereas it is with Lilly because Lilly treats Hanako like a daughter.) And, I don't think it's healthy at all during the VN timeline, but years later, it could work. May not be the best thing to happen to her, but it could be quite good.

...When did it seem like that?
And FYI, Hanako and Lilly aren't actually related either...So by your new logic, that's not squicky either.

She did say "adolescence is a funny time," but to me she always seemed more amused than disapproving.

Akira doesn't really mother Hanako all that much. Not that squicky.
Lilly does mother Hanako a lot. Quite squicky.
Even if it weren't for the squick factor, I think Hanako's undercurrent of resent for Lilly's treatment of her would get in the way of any kind of romantic/sexual relationship.
And, the whole lesbianism is a phase mentality comes from her whole "adolescence is a funny time" thing. And we know she didn't experiment herself, given that she was too busy with her case of one-itis re: her English tutor.

Which I'll admit leaves it to interpretation but automatically assuming she's a lesbian is going kinda far.

I just can't see Akira/Hanako working out. Akira is much too insanely busy to tie herself down to someone as quiet and withdrawn as Hanako. Plus the age difference kinda puts me off. Hanako's still in school, while Akira is out in the business world.

Which is why I said it'd have to be years later - once Hanako's gotten out of school herself, at least.

But neither are related to her which was your explanation for the squick.
Figure out your stance here! Lilly's a friend that cares for her, seems like something happening there would be reasonable enough.
@Sea: True. But assuming she's against it is going just as far in the other direction.
And if we're going on about alternate pairings, there really should be more Yuuko/Hanako. The HNG factor alone would be worth it.

The only reason Akira even notices Hanako is because of her close friendship with Lilly.

I feel like it works too well based on what we can see as the readers. They're both messes, but together they'd be a cute, supportive mess.

Funny coincidence: I just started reading
Detective Conan, and one of the stories has a character named Ikezawa Yuuko. (First mentioned
here.) I cracked up when I saw that name.
