Who suggested that Family Guy should be censored? Complaining about a show being crude and insensitive isn't the same thing as saying it should not be allowed to air. The fact is Family Guy is crude and meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator, and it's jokes can be considered to go over the line. I'm not sure where it's implied that Family Guy should be censored though.

I find the "we make fun of everybody" excuse is usually just a cop-out. It's like the coworker who has absolutely no tact, and when confronted about being rude, he says "I'm just being honest." If Family Guy is dedicated to simply pointing and giggling at everybody like a 5-year old, the idea itself is asinine and doesn't need to be encouraged.

Fortunately, not everything they have done is that bad. But most of it is.

family guy is not some tactless coworker that you have to see everyday. family guy is a tv show known for being crass and offensive that you have the option of watching. to say that its ok for them to make fun of most people but making fun of the disabled is crossing the line you are saying
that disabled people are too weak to handle a little humor at their expense and need to be protected.

No problem with it. It's a joke. The only people offended are those who enjoy having something to rage about.

It's not a matter of being too weak. It's a matter of having a voice. Family Guy is a TV show, so it is speaking to thousands of people at once. Disabled people who would like to respond to it don't have the benefit of a TV station with which to do so. On the other hand, Family Guy is all too happy to use "strawmen" to represent the people they're making fun of. They "sockpuppet" the arguments of the people they make fun of.

While it's true that people who are discriminated against want the chance to speak for themselves, that doesn't mean they don't want allies. Speaking in support of disabled people is not the same as sheltering and protecting them. The problem isn't that they are weak; it's that they are outnumbered. Anybody can be drowned out under those circumstances, disabled or not.

Saying "Can't you take a joke?" is a diversionary tactic used by people who don't want to address their unacceptable behavior. Humor is often misused to mask ill intent, and encourages bad ideas to spread. For instance, if you say "aw, everybody makes racist jokes," that gives the worst of us a license to be even more racist than before.

Sure, people who are disenfranchised by that treatment can just "shut up and take it." But it's really easy to talk about "sticks and stones" when you're not the one who has to put up with the verbal barrage. Over time, words really DO start to hurt, even if you have thick skin.

Okay, be pissed if it makes you feel better.

If you take life too seriously, it ceases to be funny. Allies? Yes. Those who say any jokes about disabled are crossing a line? No. When you say something is above being joked about, you give people that actually hold those views more power. And yes, when you say its ok for family guy to make fun of one group but not another, you are calling the latter group weak, whether intentionally or not.

Um... not quite.

Offended
[adjective] hurt or upset; "she looked offended"; "face had a pained and puzzled expression"

Pissed is more of a direct anger towards someone.

It's also a euphamism for being drunk, but that's just semantism, and foolish besides.
