DNF, Duke Nukem (in Development) Forever (or until someone releases a half assed game anyway)

It was announced for 2011, and they showed some trailers. I think it's for real this time, but still, it doesn't seem like it'll be worth the wait.

I would much prefer it if the KS website had some sort of list detailing what exactly has been done and what percentage of what still needs to be done. The TLwiki site has a format like that. I know a lot of the fans follow those simple updates to the to do list like it's life or death, posting them and commenting on forums when updated. Still, even if it stays the same I will continue to wait. Maybe not patiently, but waiting none the less. This game is something I'm very much so looking forward to.

I'd point to this post as most of the reason why we don't do that.

And I'd refer to the bolded as the rest.

Even internally, progress isn't all that easy to measure, and speed is very variable for a few reasons (not the least of which is simply due to the fact that this project is volunteer work and being fit around our daily lives). This is covered in the linked post anyway, so I'l leave it at that. It's good you're looking forward to the game, so unfortunately you'll just have to trust us that things are progressing.

I see now from the post you linked that a to do list would be impractical as it would be unreliable to the actual progress, since unlike a translation project there's not a set amount of work to be done. I think I remember a blog someone wrote (or something) that sometimes progress is actually pushed back because someone changed their minds about something or not everyone agreed upon how something turned out. Fans do follow those lists like well, fanatic fans. So I guess a list that lies would be upsetting to some and a list that lengthens itself would probably not go over well when it does so.

I trust that you guys are progressing and that the final project will see the light of day. I would imagine that after this amount of time with it being voluntary as you said, some of you would go to the ends of the earth to see this done.

The last major release introduced a lot of bugs, though the current version is largely playable now. The next version will be pretty badass (caravan arc, fuck yeah!), and I doubt it'll take a year before it's out. Maybe a couple months, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's out in a few weeks.

But KS and DF are completely different types of games. I don't think releasing a new scene every couple months, then "hey guys, overhauling everything, see you in a year or so" would work for KS as well as it does for DF.

I think the blog for KS is fine for the sort of game that it is, though it's a bit tedious and the tone seems somehow depressing to me.

Well, I figure it'll come out before December 2012. The Mayans foresaw the creation of KS, and thus carved a few extra notches to compensate.
