There are slight differences between those lines, pandaphil.
To love and lose your love (as in losing a game) is one, to love and lose your loving one is another.
Sad love is better than no love, but losing your loving one is... impactful.

I hadn't realized how much the music got to me until I'd returned to KS after a break. Wiosna started playing on the title screen and I was just overwhelmed. In the story there were a few:
First for Hanako there were two, the good ending and the bad ending. Good ending moved me, bad ending woke me up.When Hanako broke down in the good end I almost lost it.
For Lilly, it was when Hisao wakes up in the hospital to the music box. I couldn't react.
And then for Emi, it was when the two visit her father's grave.
To be honest, I never cried while playing KS. It's kind of weird. I feel like I should've at least a few times.
But I think that more than the scenes, the music hit me the hardest. Wiosna is the hardest on me, but so's that music at the beginning of the bad endings (I forget what it's called). The music drew out the emotions, but the art and the story directed them.
EDIT: No, I take it back. Having to move on and leave the characters behind hurts the most.

I think I said this before here, but for all the newer people now here, the single most big impacting event of reading KS was seeing all of Hanako's scars for the first time, and listening as she told the story.
Well, my logic tells me that the events people will find most impacting will be from whichever girls they like most.

I'm not sure, Rin is pretty much my favorite at the moment but nothing compares to Hanako crying in the park. Nothing.

i thought she was popular for the whole shyness and looking like sachiko. they do share similarities... besides the fact that sachiko is little and is on a murderous rampage.

For me, Hanako's route was the route that highlights most of what is wrong with Japanese society. I'm sure Guest Poster has ran that several times in other threads, so I won't start here.

I think she would have been teased/shunned in just about any culture. The difference I think is that in most other cultures her teachers growing up would have been more sympathetic/supportive.

Wish I could say that, but humanity as a culture can be REALLY shallow

Ah yes, Hanako crying. When I first experienced that, I thought that it was the bad ending and I had to fight the urge to go back. Then I was treated to a nice surprised turnaround. It did a TOASTY on me lol.
I was always a fan of the underdogs, the shunned of society in general. I'm a big Eagles fan. You know, football, for the ones that don't live in the US.
I just always cheered on the people who no one else really likes.
As a Katawa Shoujo character, Hanako is very popular. But if she were a real girl in our world, I reckon she would not be liked very much at all. That's what strikes me as so sad. But not to worry, cause she'd have my heart in an instant, as soon as she smiled even once.
