I'm talking about the concepts of J&E, not the practice of them. But this is not a philosophy forum, so let's not go into this here. If you'd like, feel free to send me a PM, and I'd be happy to discuss this.

I would probably wait a little and see how Hanako takes it, perhaps walk up to her and indirectly urge her that she has to stand up for herself if I see that she needs more motivation. Now, if all this fails and the bully just keeps at it then, It'S TiMe tO CaRve soME mEAt PUPpEtS! *AhAHAhaHahA*

Because even though I don't want to explain the philosophy behind the attitude of "no J&E", this attitude IS what would determine whether or not I would interfere when someone is bullying Hanako.

Well, this thread was... interesting... I'm reminded of why I mainly stick to the fanfic forum. (And, re: the transphobic slurs discussion... even if you don't intend to offend, it takes almost no effort to choose a word that isn't offensive, so why not make the effort? Ever since a webcomic I follow introduced a trans* character, their forums have been quite informative about trans* issues, and I've found the effort needed to not be a dick to trans* people is quite low.)
Given that Hanako's been discussed to death in this thread already (basically, I'd do SOMETHING, but it may be subtle and behind the scenes unless it was physical, then I'd get involved with a weaponized textbook)...
For the other girls... Emi, she'd be the type to shove a metal foot up someone's ass, without lemon-flavored lube, and the bullying would end quickly. Lilly, I get the impression that the social repercussions of bullying her would prevent it from happening in the first place, at least in an overt way that I'd notice. Shizune and Misha, for almost the same reason (crossing the student council is a BAD idea), and even subtle bullying would be retaliated against like that. That leaves Rin, and I probably wouldn't associate with her, so I'd just back away.

My sides.
Also, most likely true.
