I remember the only reason I didn't fall for that trap was having saved before hand, made the choice and exited but forgot to save again. Then I just chose the other action whenI can back.

Honestly I wanted Emi on my first time because she reminded me of me and I wanted to see how cute the ending was. And I got her. I love all the girls but I will say I have a soft spot for Emi and Rin because they're so different than the Shizune/Misha and Lilly/Hakano pairs and I picked up on that right away.

another thing is, I think a lot of people get the Emi route because that's the "I'm going to get better" route. some people probably figured that was the best way to get Hisao to live through the game. others probably figured getting in better shape was the only way to make sure he got laid. *duck* who knows?

Great, first thing we ever hear from her are primordal grunts and heavy breathing. I never did figure out if she was mute through her condition or just never bothered to speak.

I dont think its ever mentioned that she is mute. Most likely, if she was born deaf, she simply cannot speak because she has never heard sound. Even for people who became deaf as babies, learning to speak is very difficult.

That's a pity, but there at least has to be an instinct, yes?

If, by instinct, you mean that she can make noise, then yes. She should have the ability to make indistinct noise. If you mean an instinct to speak language, then no. Speech is a learned behavior and if she has never heard it before, she won't be able to do it. Well, it is possible...but incredibly difficult and it would sound very strange.
